The Duquesne University men's soccer team collected nine Atlantic 10 post-season awards as voted on by the league's coaches and SID's. Highlighting the list was junior midfielder Travis MacKenzie (Carnegie, PA/Chartiers Valley) who was named to the A-10's All-Conference First Team.
Three seniors were named Second Team All-Conference in forward Tom Sochacki (Pittsburgh, PA/Shadyside Academy), defenseman Noah Salsi (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and goalkeeper Zach Varga (Mountville, PA/Hempfield). In addition, freshman Alex Trujillo (Whitby, ONT /Father Leo J. Austin) was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
For the third straight year, Duquesne had a league-high four players named to the All-Academic Team, including MacKenzie, Salsi, Varga and senior Jared Helfrich (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills).
Duquesne is currently 11-6-1 on the season and is the four-seed in the six-team Atlantic 10 Championship. The Red and Blue face fifth-seeded host Charlotte tonight at 7:30 pm. The winner will play again tomorrow versus either top-seeded Saint Louis or second-seeded Rhode Island in the semifinals. The finals are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 pm.
