University of Richmond, Va. - Duquesne University's women's basketball team dropped an Atlantic 10 match at Richmond, 72-53, Sunday afternoon at the Robins Center, Sophomore Jocelyn Chandler paced the Dukes with a career high 15 points.
The Dukes (6-8, 1-2 A-10), down 10-9 in the opening half, regained the lead when Chandler hit a layup and junior Loui Hall dropped in two free throws for a 12-9 edge seven-and-a-half minutes into the game. Richmond responded with a 10-0 run to put this red and blue squad up 19-12 at 9:25, a lead they would not surrender the rest of the game.
Leading 34-22 at the break, Richmond extended the edge to 60-41 with about seven minutes left in the game. Duquesne was able to cut the deficit to nine twice in the closing period but got no closer as UR ended the game with the game high 19-point margin, 72-53.
Hall added nine points and matched her career high with 12 rebounds.
Richmond (7-8, 2-1 A-10) was led by Saona Chapman with 14 points. Kelly Roche added 13 and Mirna Mazic contributed 10 points. Chapman, Roche and Amber Petillon each grabbed six rebounds.
UR was 50 percent from the floor and the arc. Duquesne hit 37.3 percent of their shots, including just 2-of-11 from three point range (18.2%). The Dukes outrebounded the Spiders, 35-32.
The Dukes return to the Palumbo Center on Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, when they face Dayton (10-4, 2-1 A-10) at 7:05 p.m.
