Notre Dame, Ind. - Duquesne University's men's cross-country team placed three runners in the top 10 on the way to a first place finish at the 33-team National Catholic Championships, edging host Notre Dame by a single point, 45-46.
Junior Chris Horvat's (Cleveland, OH / Gilmour Academy) time of 24:50 was good for second among the 265 runners. Freshman Josh Eddy (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) was fifth (25:21) and sophomore Tom Slosky's (Brackenridge, PA / Highlands) time of 25:28 gave him ninth place.
Senior Kevin Borelli (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) was 13th with a time of 25:38 and classmate Zack Dorman's (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) mark of 25:47 was the 16th best.
An Atlantic 10 Conference team, Xavier, was third with 124 points. Results for the other A-10 programs: Dayton finished fifth, Saint Louis eighth, Saint Joseph's 17th and St. Bonaventure 29th.
The Dukes have next weekend off before resuming competition at the Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational at Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, October 1st at 10:00 a.m.
