Three Duquesne University's men's soccer players have been selected to the 2005 Atlantic 10 Pre-Season All-Conference Teams as selected by the league's coaches. Named to the All-Conference Team were juniors Noah Salsi (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Zach Varga (Mountville, PA/Hempfield) while freshman Evan Browne (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) was named to the All-Rookie Team.
Salsi was named a 2004 Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference choice, to the 2004 Atlantic 10 All-Championship team and to the 2004 Atlantic 10 Pre-Season All-Conference team. He led Dukes in goals with five and game-winning goals with three and was second on the team with 13 points. As a freshman in 2003 he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and led the conference with eight assists.
Varga was also a 2004 Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference selection at goalkeeper as he led the Atlantic 10 with a 0.82 goals against average. He posted six shutouts last season and has 13 in his two seasons. The 2003 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, he is Duquesne's career leader in goals against average at 0.78
Browne comes to Duquesne already decorated as a Regional All-American and a two-time All-State, All-WPIAL and All-Section honoree. The Section Player of the Year as a senior he is also a two-time Post-Gazette and Tribune-Review Elite 11 selection
The Dukes, under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Wade Jean, return eight starters and 14 lettermen from a 2004 squad that posted a 13-6-1 record and won the Atlantic 10 regular season title. The Dukes open the 2005 season the first weekend in September as they face St. Bonaventure in a non-conference match.
