Bethlehem, Pa. - Duquesne University's men's cross country team continued their record-setting 2005 season with a best-ever sixth place finish in the 30-team NCAA Division I Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional meet held Saturday at Lehigh's Goodman Campus Cross County Course.
Duquesne junior Chris Horvat led Coach Jim Lear's team with a time of 31:01.0 over the 10k track, good for 20th place in the 195-runner competition. Senior Zach Dorman was 39th (31:33.4), freshman Josh Eddy finished 41st (31:34.5), sophomore Tom Slosky 47th (31:45.1) and senior Kevin Borrelli came in at no. 78 (32:24.6).
The Dukes was 11th last season after finishing 15th in 2003.
All five DU runners had been named to the A-10 All-Conference team with Borrelli also repeating on the Academic All-Conference squad.
The Dukes other finishers were senior Gary Malinko (84th) and freshman Derek Dutille, who placed 114th finishing 117th overall.
Georgetown won the team competition, and with second place American, moves on to the NCAA final next Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. The Hoyas' Fleet Hower won the race in 30:03.8. Individual qualifiers are La Salle's Sean Quigley, Penn's Courtney Jaworski and Frank Macreery and Dave Nightingale of Princeton.
La Salle, coming in fourth, led the A-10 teams. Saint Joseph's was 13th and George Washington finished 22nd.
The Dukes complete the 2005 season at the IC4A championships. This annual eastern race, hosted this year by Fordham University, will be held on Saturday, November 19 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York.
