Easton, Pa. - The Duquesne men's soccer team's strong offensive play wasn't enough against the host Leopards as Lafayette held on for a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon in the Puma Classic at Metzgar Fields.

Duquesne's only score came in the 67th minute following Nathan Jolly's foul from behind in the box. Senior Derek MacKenzie's (Carnegie, PA / Chartiers Valley) successful penalty kick tightened the game at 2-1. Lafayette was able to hold off the Dukes the rest of the way as the Patriot League program captured the tournament title.

MacKenzie, Steve Mellor and Aaron Van Overschelde were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Leopards (4-1) scored both of their goals in the first 16 minutes of the game. In fact, Lafayette College scored on their only shots on goal. Then LC "bent but didn't break" against the Dukes who outshot the Leopards, 12-6. DU kept testing goalie Mike Tortora, who recorded seven saves. The Dukes also had a three-cornerkick edge (7-4).

Lafayette's Victor Krasij took a direct free kick from Jolly in the box at 5:25 of the opening period and headed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead. They added to that lead 10 minutes later when Chris Doney scored on a cross from Thomas Harju.

In Sunday's other game, Lehigh (2-1), which had lost to the Dukes on Friday, recorded a 5-0 shutout over Rider (0-4).

Duquesne (2-2) is again on the road this Wednesday when they travel to Cleveland State (1-1) of the Horizon League for a 7:00 p.m. game.
