Terry McNelis Signs With Minnesota Thunder

April 22, 2004

Former Duquesne University standout goalkeeper Terry McNelis (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp.) has recently been signed by the Minnesota Thunder of the A-League.

McNelis is the Duquesne record-holder in three of the five single-season goalkeeping records as well as all five career standards. During his senior campaign in 2002, he finished second in the Atlantic 10 Conference in shutouts with five and second in goals against average at 1.19 in leading Duquesne to the Atlantic 10 championship game.

"At the combine this year, Terry really stood out from the rest of the keepers on the last day," said Thunder head coach Buzz Lagos. "We like his style and he has a very big presence in the penalty area. He will be valuable backup to Joe Warren this year."

McNelis joins four other former Dukes who are currently on professional rosters led by Damien Pottinger of the Edmonton Aviators and the Philadelphia KiXX of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Dan Hartung, Jason Kutney and Nathan Salsi are all now playing in the USL Pro Soccer League for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Kutney started the season with Charleston Battery of the USL A-League and joined the Hounds on April 7, 2004 along with Hartung. Salsi was signed in March 5th.
