Three Former Dukes Pursue Pro Opportunities

March 9, 2004

Three former Duquesne University soccer players have recently made commitments to continue their soccer careers beyond the collegiate level. Jason Kutney, Damien Pottinger and Nathan Salsi are all currently on professional soccer rosters.

Kutney was recently signed by the Charleston Battery, the 2003 A-League champions, after participating in the team's pre-season player trials. He also played in the Premier Development League in 2003 with the Jersey Shore Boca, appearing in 10 games for a total of 798 minutes.

Pottinger, who was chosen in December by the Edmonton Aviators in the 2004 A-League College Draft, was chosen by the Philadelphia Kixx as the eighth pick in the territorial round of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Amateur Draft on Feb. 27.

Salsi joins the professional ranks after playing for the Dukes from 1999-2002. He has joined the Pittsburgh Riverhounds as they begin play in the United Soccer League's Pro Soccer Division this season. The Riverhounds will play an exhibition game against Duquesne on Wednesday, March 31 at Baldwin High School.

The Dukes finished the season ranked 25th nationally with a 13-3-3 record. They were also the Atlantic 10 regular season co-champions with an 8-2-1 conference mark.
