Duquesne University men's soccer players juniors Noah Salsi (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Andrew Bell (New Marske, Redcar-England/Huntcliff Secondary) were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II Teams as voted on by the district's sports information directors. Salsi, a physician assistant major with a 3.94 grade point average was named to the 11-man first team while Bell, a physics major with a 3.53 gpa was named to the 12-man second team.
Salsi shares the team lead in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points and has a team-best three game-winning goals. A 2004 Atlantic 10 Pre-Season All-Conference choice, he was named to the 2003 All-Rookie Team after leading the Dukes and the Atlantic 10 with eight assists last year.
Bell also leads the Dukes in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points and has three game-winning goals as well. A member of the 2002 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, he is currently fifth all-time at Duquesne with 12 career goals. This year he leads the Red and Blue in accuracy, scoring five times on just 23 shots for a .217 percentage.
To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America teams since 1952.
CoSIDA's District II covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The Dukes have clinched a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship and travel to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1:00 pm for their regular season finale.
