Dukes Shut Out Buckeyes, 1-0

Columbus, Ohio - Duquesne's men's soccer team grabbed a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon over the Big Ten's Ohio State Buckeyes at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Senior Damien Pottinger's goal in the second half gave the Dukes the win and freshman goalie Zach Varga recorded his third shut out of his college career.

Pottinger hit his third goal of the season when he rebounded his own shot off the cross-bar past OSU's goalkeeper Ray Burse Jr. into the net from 12 yards out with less than five minutes gone in the closing half. Varga recorded three saves and lowered his goals against average to 0.64.

The win raised Duquesne's record to 4-1-1 while Ohio State is now 1-6-1. The Dukes return to action next Sunday, September 28, 2003 when they host the Canisius Golden Griffins at 2:00 p.m. on Rooney Field.
