Duquesne University men's soccer player Damien Pottinger (Scarborough, Ontario/Mother Teresa) was the first player chosen in yesterday's 2004 A-League College Draft. He was selected by the expansion franchise, Edmonton Aviators.
Pottinger, a senior forward, led the Dukes in goals (12) and points (29) for the second straight year and is the University's all-time leading scorer with 38 career goals and 89 career points. The Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Regional All-American, he led the conference in points per game (1.61) and was tied for the league-lead in goals and points. A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, he scored at least one goal in nine of 17 games played, including a career-best four in a 5-0 win versus Saint Joseph's.
The Dukes finished the season ranked 25th nationally with a 13-3-3 record. They were also the Atlantic 10 regular season co-champions with an 8-2-1 conference mark.
