Sept. 14, 2002

Box Score

Duquesne's men's soccer team (#9 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic)played to a 1-1 double overtime tie versus Colgate (#6 NSCAA New York) Saturday evening in the Colgate Invitational and were named Co-Champions of the tournament with a 1-0-1 record for the weekend event.

Freshman Derek Freund scored the Dukes goal, his first as a collegian, off an assist from senior Steve Olivarez.

Colgate (2-1-2) struck early to gain the 1-0 advantage. Just two minutes into the contest Matt Davis picked up a rebound and slotted it in the back of the net to put the Raiders up. The Dukes defense prevented Colgate from getting many scoring opportunities after that and tied the score 1-1 with just a minute to play in the first half on Freund's goal off a scramble.

The Dukes (3-0-2) return to action on Friday, Sept. 21 when they host Robert Morris (2-2-1) at 3:00 pm in their home opener at Rooney Field.
