Two Dukes Named to Atlantic 10 Academic Team

Dec. 2, 2002

Two Duquesne University men's soccer players were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team. Seniors Terry McNelis (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp.) and Christian Reinecker (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp.) were honored while McNelis was also named the men's soccer Student-Athlete of the Year, sharing the award with George Washington's Matt Osborne.

McNelis, who is a three-time Academic All-Conference selection, was recently named a Verizon Third Team All-American and is also a three-time recipient of the Verizon district award. The four-time A-10 All-Conference selection boasts a 3.60 cumulative grade point average in physical therapy. On the field, he is the Duquesne record-holder in three of the five single-season records as well as all five career standards. This year he finished second in the conference in shutouts with five and second in goals against average at 1.19.

Reinecker accepts his first Academic All-Conference laurel shortly after being named a Verizon Second Team Academic All-American and to the Verizon Academic All-District Two Team. A transfer from Seton Hall last season, he helped lead a defense that posted six shutouts and allowed just 1.18 goals per game on the season while adding two assists on offense. Reinecker has posted a 3.94 gpa in marketing.

The Dukes, who finished second in the Atlantic 10 regular season standings, also finished second at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
