Hampton, Va. – The Duquesne swimming and diving team recorded eight personal-best performances and earned four medals on day three of the Atlantic 10 Championships Friday at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.
The Dukes remain in third place with 355.5 points after capturing one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Richmond leads the field with 399 points, followed by George Washington in second with 376.5. La Salle sits fourth at 324 points, while St. Bonaventure rounds out the top five with 237.
Sophomore
Ashley Freel paced Duquesne on day three, successfully defending her Atlantic 10 title in the 100-yard butterfly with a winning time of 53.38. Senior
Claudia Rzeznik joined Freel in the event and earned her first medal of the championships, claiming bronze with a personal-best time of 54.11. Sophomore
Rachel Howard also posted a personal best in the 100 fly, finishing seventh in 54.59.
Freel carried her momentum into the 400 individual medley, earning her second medal of the day with a bronze finish in 4:18.09, shaving more than a second off her preliminary time of 4:19.29. Sophomore
Surrena Luna also reached the championship final, placing eighth in 4:28.19.
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore
Kaitlyn Connors delivered a personal-best performance of 1:49.43 in the championship final to finish fourth overall. Junior
Lexi Sundgren added valuable team points in the consolation final, clocking in at 1:51.94.

Sierra Snow returned Duquesne to the podium in the 100 backstroke, capturing silver with a personal-record time of 54.08. Freshman
Norah Kotnik also impressed in the event, posting a personal best of 55.52 in the prelims before placing seventh in the final with a time of 55.68. Duquesne placed two swimmers in the consolation final of the 100 breaststroke, where senior
Sydney Severini led the heat with a time of 1:02.46. Sophomore
Jess Burns followed with a 1:03.38 finish, adding to the Dukes point total.
The 400 medley relay capped day three, as the quartet of

Ashley Freel and freshman
Lucy Backus earned bronze with a time of 3:41.47.
Earlier in the prelims, freshman
Anna Klotz recorded a personal-best 4:32.89 in the 400 individual medley. Senior
Aislinn Mooney followed with a personal record of 1:52.91 in the 200 freestyle prelims. Klotz later added another personal best in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 57.12.
