Hampton, Va. – The Duquesne University swimming and diving team opened competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Wednesday afternoon, earning its first medal of the meet at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.
After day one, the Dukes sit in second place with 68 total points. Richmond leads the field with 74 points, followed closely by La Salle in third with 66. St. Bonaventure (58) and George Washington (56) round out the top five.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team headlined the day, capturing the Dukes first medal of the championships with a gold-medal finish. The quartet of sophomore

Ashley Freel posted a winning time of 7:16.52. Snow set the tone on the opening leg, while Freel anchored the Dukes to victory.
