- The Duquesne women's basketball wraps up the month of January on Saturday, when it hosts La Salle inside UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse for an Atlantic 10 matchup, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
- The Dukes are coming off a road trip on Wednesday (Jan. 28) night, where it dropped an 86-55 decision at Richmond, inside the Robins Center.
- Richmond opened the game strong, hitting three of its first six shots from the floor to jump out to a 10-4 lead. Freshman
Raevin Washington converted a layup to trim the deficit to four with just under six minutes remaining, but the Spiders closed the quarter on a dominant 16-0 run.
- During that stretch, Richmond shot 6-of-11 (.545) from the field, knocked down three of six attempts from beyond the arc, and forced seven Duquesne turnovers.
- The momentum carried into the second quarter as Richmond scored 11 straight points to build a commanding 37-6 advantage with under seven minutes left before halftime. Sophomore
Mackenzie Blackford briefly halted the surge with a three-pointer, and after another Richmond triple, she connected on her second consecutive three.
- Later in the quarter, following a Washington layup, the teams traded the final 12 points, with Richmond taking a 49-20 lead into the break.
- Richmond finished the game shooting 45.2 percent (28-of-62) while going 15-of-36 (.417) from behind the arc … The Spiders featured three players in double figures, led by Rachel Ullstrom, with 19 points, five three-pointers, and three rebounds … Maggie Doogan and Sam Dewey each finished with 14 points while Doogan collected five rebounds and four assists and Dewey ended 4-of-7 from behind the arc

The Series vs. La Salle – A series that dates back to 1983, the Dukes and Explorers will square off for the 48
th time come Saturday afternoon, as Duquesne holds a 25-22 edge in the all-time series. The Dukes have won the previous two meetings in the series, including a 67-57 decision last season in Philadelphia. Defensively, Duquesne wreaked havoc for the Explorers in the third quarter, holding them to just 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from the floor, including 0-of-7 from the field in the first five minutes. Over a nine-minute stretch spanning from the 1:23 mark of the second quarter to the 2:23 mark of the third, the Explorers managed just 6.25 percent shooting (1-of-16) from the field. The Dukes forced double-digit turnovers (26) for the 19th consecutive game, marking their 12th outing with 20 or more opponent miscues. They also recorded 10 or more takeaways for the 12th time this season, finishing with 12. Mackenzie Blackford—pushing the lead to 61-43. The Dukes maintained their momentum with a 10-4 run led by Blackford and junior
Jerni Kiaku, ultimately carrying a 52-38 advantage into the final quarter. For the second time this season, Duquesne had five players finish in double figures
Megan McConnell paced the Dukes with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting (57.1 percent) from the field. She connected on a pair of triples while dishing out four assists and tallying three steals.
Mackenzie Blackford netted 12 points, all coming from behind the arc while carding two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Jerni Kiaku finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals while going 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Gabby Hutcherson and
Faith Walker each registered 10 points while Hutcherson totaled eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Walker recorded a season-best in points to go along with a career-best five rebounds, one steal, and one block while going 2-of-2 from behind the arc.
Scouting The Explorers – La Salle enters Saturday having dropped six of its last seven games, holding an 11-10 overall record and a 4-6 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Explorers are coming off a narrow 69-65 loss to Saint Joseph's on Wednesday (Jan. 28). La Salle features three players averaging double figures, led by Aryss Macktoon and Ashleigh Connor, who each average 15.1 points per game. Macktoon ranks fourth nationally with 78 total steals and sits seventh in NCAA Division I at 3.71 steals per game. She has recorded 11 games with four or more steals and has scored in double figures in 18 contests. Connor has reached double figures in 19 games this season, including 12 of her last 13. She averages 5.5 rebounds per game and leads the team with 4.0 assists per contest, ranking third in the Atlantic 10. Joan Quinn rounds out the trio, contributing 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. As a team, the Explorers lead the Atlantic 10 in steals at nearly 11 per game and force the conference's third-most turnovers at 19.0 per contest.
Richmond Remains - Duquesne opened the second half with a spark, knocking down its first four shots of the quarter. Junior
Reina Green ignited the run with a three-pointer, and after a Maggie Doogan triple, Green followed with a layup. Following a Richmond turnover, Blackford converted a layup before Green capped the surge with her second three of the run. After a brief scoring drought, the Dukes pieced together an 8-1 stretch, paced by Washington with four points. Sophomore
Fatou Sane added a bucket, while freshman
Alexis Bordas knocked down a pair of free throws. Richmond answered with a 9-3 run to close the quarter and carried a 69-43 lead into the final period. Duquesne turned in its best offensive showing of the game in the third quarter, shooting 9-of-14 (.643) from the field and converting a pair of free throws.
In The Green – Junior guard
Reina Green has emerged as a key contributor for the Dukes in recent weeks. Despite a setback at Richmond, Green recorded her seventh double-figure scoring performance of the season, finishing with 10 points on 50.0 percent shooting (3-of-6) from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers. She added four rebounds and went 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. Over the last five games, the Florida native is averaging just under 10 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per contest. Green posted a career-high 14 points against Dayton (Jan. 21), knocking down two triples and grabbing three rebounds. On the season, she ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 7.0 points per game, second in rebounding at 4.0 per contest, and third in steals with 1.2 per game. Green is shooting better than 36.0 percent from the field and ranks third on the team with 11 made three-pointers.
The Washington Post – Freshman forward
Raevin Washington turned in a flawless shooting performance against Richmond on Wednesday night. She notched her third double-figure scoring outing of the season, leading the team with 12 points on a perfect 6-of-6 effort from the field. Washington added three rebounds and swatted away a pair of shots. On the season, the Virginia native ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 with 31 total blocks, while her 1.5 blocks per game also sit fourth in the conference. She has recorded at least one rejection in 15 contests, including three games with four or more blocks. Earlier this year, Washington posted a season-high five blocks and seven rebounds in a win over Kent State (Nov. 24), then followed with four blocks, eight points, and eight rebounds against Liberty (Nov. 29). For the season, Washington is averaging just under 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 47.3 percent (44-of-93) from the field.
From Dahn Tahn - Duquesne continues to light it up from beyond the arc, ranking fifth in the Atlantic 10 with more than six three-pointers per game. Much of that production comes from freshman guard
Alexis Bordas and sophomore guard
Mackenzie Blackford. Bordas ranks 20th nationally with 61 made triples, leading the Dukes and sitting third in the league at 3.0 three-pointers per game. Blackford ranks second on the team with 41 made threes and seventh in the A-10 at 2.0 triples per contest. The Ohio native has knocked down at least one three-pointer in all but one game this season and has connected on three or more on five occasions. Together, Bordas and Blackford have combined for seven games in which each has made two or more triples, with the Dukes capturing four wins during that stretch. Over the last four games, Blackford is shooting 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from long range, hitting multiple three-pointers in each contest. As a team, Duquesne has drained 135 three-pointers this season, with 102 of those coming from Bordas and Blackford.
