PITTSBURGH – After moving up to second in Duquesne's record book for career caused turnovers on Saturday, senior defender
Hanna Pawela has been named the
Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
Pawela recorded a game-high six caused turnovers, scooped four ground balls, and secured a draw control in the Dukes' 11-10 victory over George Washington to open conference play.
A native of Glen Allen, Virginia, Pawela is just the second Duke to reach 130 career caused turnovers. That total is currently the highest among all active NCAA Division I women's lacrosse players.
Pawela, who led the nation in caused turnovers and ranked second in ground balls last season, is off to a strong start in her senior campaign. She currently leads the A-10 and ranks eighth in Division I with 2.83 caused turnovers per game while sitting second in the conference with 3.00 ground balls per game.
Duquesne hits the road this week for matchups at La Salle on Wednesday and UMass on Saturday.
