PREVIEW: Dukes Ready for Split-Squad Weekend

DU to send competitors to SPIRE, Boston U and YSU

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University indoor track & field team will be split this weekend, with athletes competing in the SPIRE Collegiate Games, Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Youngstown State Last Chance Invitational.

  • The Dukes competed at the Jud Logan Light Giver Memorial, where Hannah Seitzinger won the 400 meters with a career-best 55.17 seconds, ranking second all-time in Duquesne history. She was named A-10 Co-Track Performer of the Week and led the 4x400-meter relay (Seitzinger, Alyssa Willis, Amy Allen, Eva Leatherman) to first place in 3:44.25, also the second-best time in program history.
  • Freshman Rose Kuchera claimed her second A-10 Rookie of the Week award after finishing first in the triple jump with a distance of 11.90 meters (39-0.5) … Kuchera is now the third Duke in history and the first in 24 years to win Rookie of the Week twice during the indoor season.
  • Haley Hamilton recorded the fifth-highest time in Duquesne history for the mile (4:59.86) in a fifth-place finish … Seniors Mara Whalen (5:01.91, 7th) and Addy Ciecierski (5:09.08, 16th) and junior Ryley Schwalm (5:05.09, 11th) all set personal bests as every Duquesne mile runner posted a PR.

DUKES IN THE TOP 10 OF THE A-10 
  • Senior Hannah Seitzinger leads the A-10 in the 400m with a time of 55.17 seconds … Seitzinger is second place in the 800m and is on the A-10-leading 4x400m relay team with Alyssa Willis, Eva Leatherman and Amy Allen … Allen is fourth in the A-10 in the 400m with a time of 56.05 seconds.
  • Allen and Seitzinger are also on the Distance Medley Relay team with seniors Haley Hamilton and Mara Whalen which leads the A-10 with its time of 11:36.94.
  • Sophomore Caroline Garbe is second in the A-10 in the high jump with a mark of 1.74 meters. 
  • Junior Madelyn Moretti ranks third in the shot put with a mark of 14.52 meters after recording the second-best mark in program history at Penn State.
  • Freshman Nadia Constantakis is 10th in the A-10 in the pole vault, boasting a mark of 3.55 meters (11-7.75). 
  • Freshman Rose Kuchera is in the top 10 in the A-10 for long jump and triple jump, where she ranks ninth and fifth respectively.
  • Duquesne has two top-ten performers in the pentathlon … Senior Halle Walcutt is second with her score of 3448, and junior Eva Leatherman is ninth with her score of 3174.
  • Sophomore Anna Rorrer ranks 10th in the 60m hurdles with an 8.90-second time.
SEASON HONORS
  • Hannah Seitzinger was named A-10 Co-Track Performer of the Week after posting A-10-leading times in the 400 meters (55.17) and 4x400-meter relay (3:44.25) last weekend at Ashland. She is now one of only two Dukes to earn the award twice in a single indoor season.
  • Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week honoree Rose Kuchera has become the third Duke in history to win Rookie of the Week honors twice in a single indoor season. She earned her second award this past week after winning the Ashland Jud Logan Meet with an 11.90-meter triple jump, the best mark among A-10 rookies. Kuchera previously claimed the honor following her collegiate debut at Akron, where she posted three top-three finishes in the triple jump, long jump, and 60-meter hurdles.
  • Madelyn Moretti was named A-10 Co-Field Performer of the Week on Feb. 4 after her 14.52-meter (47-7.75) shot put throw secured second place in the A-10 standings and in Duquesne history at Penn State.
  • Caroline Garbe earned A-10 Field Performer of the Week honors on Jan. 21 after clearing an A-10-leading 1.74 meters in the high jump at Kent State, also setting a new program record for Duquesne.
THIS YEAR IN THE RECORD BOOK
  • Caroline Garbe established a new program record in the high jump, clearing 1.74 meters at the Kent State Jud Logan Memorial.
  • Nadia Constantakis broke the program record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.55 meters, surpassing the previous record of 3.51 meters, which Sarah Fetterman achieved in 2005 at the Ashland Collegiate Invitational.
  • Hannah Seitzinger rewrote the program record in the 800 meters, clocking 2:06.01 at the Penn State National Open ... She previously held the record at 2:08.16, which she recorded at last year's ECAC Championships ... Seitzinger also moved to second all-time at DU with a 55.17 in the 400m last weekend.
  • Madelyn Moretti climbed to second place in the indoor shot put standings with a 14.52-meter throw at Penn State.
  • First-year Rose Kuchera recorded an 11.90-meter triple jump last weekend, the fourth-best mark in Duquesne history.
  • Haley Hamilton (4:59.86 – mile) and Amy Allen (56.05 – 400 meters) have secured spots in Duquesne's all-time top five in their respective events, while Halle Walcutt improved her fifth-place standing in the pentathlon record book with 3,448 points at Penn State.
  • Two relay teams have recorded the second-fastest times in program history this season — the 4x400-meter team (Alyssa Willis, Eva Leatherman, Amy Allen, and Hannah Seitzinger) and the distance medley relay team (Mara Whalen, Amy Allen, Hannah Seitzinger, and Haley Hamilton).

Duquesne will be off next weekend before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, which take place Feb. 28–March 1 in Virginia Beach, Va.
