LAST TIME OUT
Duquesne returns to action for the first time since both teams
placed fourth at the Robert Morris Colonial Invitational on Sept. 12. The Dukes combined for 13 personal bests at the meet.
Ben Shields (24:36.2 – PR, 4th place) and
Nathaniel Woshner (24:39.9 – PR, 6th place) led the men's team, with all five scorers running personal bests (
Sam Freedman,
Anthony Ciecierski and
Mason Stewart also scored). On the women's side, freshman
Lauren Ciuca paced the Dukes in her first collegiate 6K, finishing 17th with a time of 21:56.2. Fellow freshman
Sylvia Kashak and senior
Kate Saum placed inside the top 30, while
Sophia Trevenen and
Ava Brewster rounded out the scoring.
A-10 HONORS
Shields and Ciuca earned
Atlantic 10 honors following their standout performances at RMU. Shields collected his first career A-10 Men's Performer of the Week award after placing fourth with an 8K personal-best 24:36.2 – an improvement of more than 30 seconds. Ciuca was named A-10 Women's Rookie of the Week after finishing 17th overall with a 21:56.2 in her first 6K.
PRESEASON POLLS
In the Atlantic 10 preseason polls, the Dukes were picked sixth on the women's side and tied for ninth on the men's side. Loyola Chicago was selected as the favorite in both. The Duquesne men also opened the season ranked No. 12 in the
USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region preseason poll, their first regional ranking since 2020, before dropping out of the poll.
UP NEXT
The Dukes return to Youthtowne Fields in Clinton, Pa., for the second time this season when they compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 11. The men's race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the women at 10:45 a.m.
