NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne sophomore
Ben Shields and freshman
Lauren Ciuca were
recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference on Tuesday for their performances at the Robert Morris Colonial Invitational.
Shields was named A-10 Men's Performer of the Week after placing fourth in the 8k with a career-best time of 24:36.2. His run improved his previous personal best by more than 30 seconds and helped the Dukes to a fourth-place team finish.
Ciuca collected A-10 Women's Rookie of the Week honors after leading Duquesne in her first collegiate 6k. She crossed in 17th place overall with a time of 21:56.2 as the Dukes also finished fourth in the team standings.
Shields and Ciuca are the first Dukes to earn A-10 weekly cross country awards this season.
Duquesne returns to action on October 3 at Lehigh for the Paul Short Invitational.
