- The Duquesne University men's soccer team concludes a two-game homestand at Rooney Field to open its 2024 season Sunday, welcoming Canisius for a 12:30 p.m. match. It's the first game of a soccer doubleheader on the Bluff, as the women will host Bowling Green at 4:00 p.m.

- The Dukes opened their 2024 campaign with a
3-1 victory over Seton Hill, scoring a pair of goals in the second half to snap a 1-1 halftime tie.

Ashton Jell collected his first collegiate goal at 62:20 to give Duquesne the lead over the Griffins, while senior
Maxi Hopfer added an insurance goal at 76:49 to settle the final score.

- The Dukes are led by head coach
Chase Brooks, who is in his 12th season leading the program in 2024. Brooks has posted a record of 78-83-25 (.487) on the sidelines at Duquesne. Thanks to the win over Seton Hill, Brooks
picked up his 100th career victory as a head coach.

- In the first half against the Griffins in the 2024 season opener, Seton Hill grabbed an early 1-0 lead before freshman
Marko Rasmussen scored the equalizer at 31:25 for his first NCAA Division I marker.

- A total of six starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including forward
Tate Mohney, who appeared in 17 games a year ago, including four starts, and registered seven points thanks to two goals and three assists. Mohney finished with eight shots, including five on goal.

- Senior forward
Maxi Hopfer was named to the 2024 All-Atlantic 10 Preseason Team at forward in a vote of league head coaches. In his last full season in 2022, Hopfer was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team after finishing with 14 points thanks to five goals and four assists. In 2021, Hopfer found the back of the net 11 times and also distributed six assists in finishing with 28 points to earn a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 First Team.

- Duquesne takes to the road for the first time on the 2024 season after hosting the Golden Griffins, traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio, Sunday, Sept. 1, for a 3:00 p.m. match at Xavier.

Split The Difference – Senior
Zoltan Nagy was one of two Dukes to start all 18 matches for Duquesne last season and earned the start in the 2024 season opener against Seton Hill, playing the first 45 minutes. Redshirt sophomore
Sam Coss played the second half in the win over the Griffins and got the win, posting one save in 45 minutes.

Welcome Back – Senior forward
Maxi Hopfer battled injuries during the 2023 campaign and appeared in just six games, including two starts, but he made his presence felt in the 2024 season opener. He scored at 76:49 to give Duquesne a 3-1 advantage, registering his 19th career goal on the Bluff. The next time Hopfer finds the back of the net will help the Styria, Austria, native become the eighth different student-athlete to register 20 career goals for the Dukes as well as the second in as many years.

The Fresh Faces – Duquesne added a number of recruits to the program in the spring, including eight transfers. Forward
Dakota Jonke spent the last two seasons at Cornell, scoring a goal in 14 career games, while forward
Jack Rhead spent the last two seasons at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), providing 15 points on six goals and three assists. Rhead also spent time at NCAA Division II Quincy University and has scored 43 points during his career courtesy of 18 goals and seven assists.
