Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team closed a two-game road swing Saturday, earning its first win away from Rooney Field in 2026 with a 2-1 triumph over Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Mich., at Titan Field. The win keeps the Dukes unbeaten on the 2026 campaign at 3-0-2 (.667).
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Feeling out the attack the majority of the first half, Duquesne was able to strike late. Junior defender
Ofek Sasson lobbed a long pass roughly 50 yards that bounced in front of senior forward
Cody Da, who had a step on a pair of defenders for Detroit Mercy. Da played the ball off his body and, with goalkeeper Colin Monroe of the Titans already committed up top, laced a shot that found the back of the net at 42:35 to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead.
ADDING ON
The goal for Da, which marked his second of the 2026 season, was one of just two shots Duquesne got off in the opening 45 minutes. It was a complete reversal after the break, as the Dukes were on the attack the majority of the second 45, firing 10 shots, including four on goal. The beneficiary was sophomore
Alex Posada, who found the back of the net for the first time this season and second time during his career on the Bluff. A shot from junior
Luke Fiscus was blocked by the defense of the Titans, but the ball found Posada on the far side, who took one dribble before firing a laser past Monroe to give Duquesne a 2-0 cushion at 53:46. The strike would prove vital, as Detroit Mercy (1-3-1) was able to trim its deficit in half at 87:51 when Daniel Kadiu scored. Despite the late marker for the Titans, the Dukes were able to earn a victory in the Motor City.

Duquesne is unbeaten through five games for the third consecutive year as well as the fourth time in the last five seasons … The Dukes opened the 2025 campaign with a record of 5-0-2 (.857) as well as the 2022 campaign at 6-0-2 (.875) before suffering their first loss of the season, respectively, both of which were against ranked foes … Duquesne opened the 2024 season with a record of 4-0-1 (.900), including a tie at No. 23 Notre Dame, before dropping a decision … Duquesne logged a 14-4 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on frame … A total of 11 different Dukes finished with at least one shot … Posada and Fiscus each played a full 90 minutes in the victory … Sasson earned his first start of the 2026 season against the Titans, with the assist his first of the year and fourth of his career … A total of 11 different players have registered on the scoresheet for Duquesne through five games … Earning the second start of his career for the Dukes was redshirt junior

Duquesne is off until Saturday, Sept. 19, when it opens the Atlantic 10 portion of its schedule at Rooney Field against Rhode Island. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and marks the second game of a soccer doubleheader on the Bluff.
