LAST TIME OUT
- Duquesne suffered a 17-5 loss at Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon.
- The Dukes tallied back-to-back free position goals by Corinne Webb and Lizzie Cleary in the last two minutes of the first quarter to narrow the early deficit to 3-2. Saint Joseph's answered by scoring the next 13 goals to take command of the contest, holding Duquesne off the board until the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter.
- Junior midfielder Mackenzie Leszczynski broke the scoring drought with her 100th career goal. Leszczynski led the Dukes with seven shots, six of which on frame. She has now scored in 15 consecutive games and is up to a team-high 33 goals on the season.
- Emma Raines added a goal with five minutes to play and Cleary, a freshman, recorded her second career multi-goal game with another free position score with 0:22 left.
- Hanna Pawela scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and forced three turnovers. Rachel O'Toole started in net and made nine saves, tying a season high.
RECORD-SETTING SEASON
- Junior defender Hanna Pawela leads the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (3.88) and is second in ground balls per game (4.19).
- Pawela's NCAA-leading 62 caused turnovers (and counting) secured a single-season Duquesne record surpassing Meghan Hungate's record from 1998 of 57 CTs ... Her 67 ground balls are also the most in the NCAA this season and rank third in program history for a single season, just two behind Katie Harner (69 in 2001) for second all-time ... Meghan Hungate is the all-time leader with 76 ground balls in 2001.
- This season, Pawela eclipsed 100 career CTs in the win vs. La Salle and 100 career ground balls against George Mason.
- She set a new DU single-game record vs. EMU with 10 CTs - it was the most by a DI player since Elizabeth Small (Sacred Heart) had 10 against Vermont on 2/28/20, and is the only player in Division I to have multiple games with 8-plus CTs, with four.
- Pawela has been named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week twice this season ... Mar. 5 after posting 14 GBs and 13 CTs in a 2-0 week for DU and on Feb. 19 after her record 10 CTs and a career-high eight GBs vs. EMU.
FINISH STRONG
- With seven wins entering the finale, Duquesne has improved by five wins from last season ... +5 wins is tied for the largest increase in one season in program history (2000-'01, 2003-'04 & 2018-'19), a win vs. Davidson to make it +6 wins would be the largest year-to-year improvement ever for Duquesne.
- A win would give the Dukes their most wins (8) since 2019 - the first season under Coach Desrosiers (9-8).
- DU has secured a winning home record (entering Saturday at 5-3) for the first time since 2021.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- The Davidson Wildcats bring a three-game win streak into Rooney Field ... Davidson (6-2 A-10) is locked in at the three seed for the upcoming A-10 Tournament.
- The Wildcats are 2-5 on the road this season with a 1-2 mark in league road contests (L, 7-15 at Richmond ... W, 18-9 at GW ... L, 11-13 at UMass).
- Davidson is seventh nationally and second (behind Duquesne) in caused turnovers per game at 10.80, while offensively ranking second in the A-10 and 23rd in Division I in fewest turnovers committed per game (13).
- The Wildcats have the best clearing percentage in the A-10 at 91.5%, rank second in shots (31.07) and shots on goal (24.27) per game, and third in scoring offense (13.53 goals per game).
DEFENSIVE DUKES
- Duquesne ranks second nationally in Division I for caused turnovers per game (14.19) and third in ground balls per game (22.75).
- The Dukes have the top four caused turnover games in the A-10 this season (24 vs. EMU, 20 vs. George Mason & La Salle, 19 vs. UDM) ... The 24 CTs vs. EMU are tied for the second-most by a D1 team in a game this season.
- DU is the only A-10 team with multiple games recording more than 30 ground balls (35 vs. Detroit Mercy & at Radford, 34 vs. La Salle).
- Four Dukes rank in the top 15 of the of the Atlantic 10 in caused turnovers per game (Hanna Pawela - 1st at 3.88, Casey McBride - 4th at 1.80, Emily King - 11th at 1.25, and Emily O'Donnell - 15th at 1.17) ... Pawela also leads the league in ground balls per game (4.19) and King is fifth at 2.44.
CAREER MILESTONES FOR LESZCZYNSKI
- Junior Mackenzie Leszczynski hit the career century mark in her second stat this season after netting goal #100 last time out ... She also recorded her 100th career point in the win over Akron earlier this season.
- Leszczynski moved into third all-time for career draw controls at Duquesne in the game at Robert Morris and is now at 162 (44 this season) ... She passed Krista Mann (160 from '03-06) ... Second all-time is 198 by Ginger Flocco ('02-05) and the career record is 252 by Maddie Hart from 2017-20.
STAT STANDOUTS
- Mackenzie Leszczynski is third in the A-10 in shots on goal per game (4.88) and fifth in shots per game (5.69) ... Leszczynski also ranks in the league's top-10 in free position percentage (40%) and goals (33) ... The junior midfielder leads Duquesne with 45 points and is the only Duke with double-digit goals (33) and assists (12).
- Corinne Webb, who missed the entire 2023 season with an injury, is second on the team with 32 goals ... Webb has a team-leading seven games with 3+ goals and is fourth in the A-10 with a 47.8% free position percentage (11-for-23).
- Senior Emelie Curtis ranks 9th in the A-10 with a team-high 17 assists ... Her five assists in the win over EMU were the most in a game by a Duke since March 2019, and are tied for second-most in a game by an A-10 player this year.
- Emily King leads Duquesne with 53 draw controls on the season (3.31 per game - 11th in A-10), including a career-best nine in the OT win at George Washington.
A-10 WINS
- Emily King, a transfer from Towson, raced in to score the game-winning goal in overtime at George Washington with less than two minutes to play for the Dukes' first A-10 win ... Emelie Curtis forced the extra period with a free-position goal in the final seconds of regulation.
- Rachel O'Toole made a save with 38 seconds remaining as the Dukes held on for a 12-11 win over La Salle last home game ... Behind a four-goal effort from Corinne Webb, DU led by as many as six in the third quarter but had to fend off the late La Salle rally for the win.
RECORDS TO NOTE
- The Dukes are 23-1 in the Desrosiers Era (since 2019) when scoring 16 or more goals ... 2-0 this season (EMU and YSU).
- DU is 7-0 when scoring 10 goals this year.
- The Dukes have not lost a game this season (6-0) that has been decided by less than five goals.
