Trio of Accolades - Junior guard
Megan McConnell earned a trio of Atlantic 10 postseason awards announced by the league office on March 5. McConnell, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., was tabbed to the All-Conference First Team while earning a spot on the All-Defensive Team and All-Academic Team, as voted on by the league's coaches. It's the second straight season where McConnell was selected to an All-Conference and All-Academic Team. The junior guard has been nothing but stout for the Dukes this season, leading them in almost every statistical category while surpassing the 1,000 point milestone earlier this season. She's averaging 13.1 points a game while shooting .463 percent from the floor and a career-high .414 from long range. McConnell currently ranks 27th in the country in assist to turnover ratio (2.35) while totaling 150 assists this year, good for third in the A-10. The Pittsburgh native is dishing out 4.7 helpers a game which is good for third in the conference. She has recorded 17 games this season with five plus assists while playing 38.4 minutes a game, which ranks second in NCAA Division I.
Six Pack – The Dukes feature an achievement that only four other schools in the country have conquered and that's having five 1,000-point scorers on the same team. Fortunately for Duquesne, they add another member to the list to give them six on the year. Senior
Amaya Hamilton and junior
Tess Myers were the first to surpass the milestone as both achieved the honor in a 66-59 victory at Davidson. Just two games later, senior
Ayanna Townsend joined the club during a 73-57 win over Loyola Chicago. The following week, juniors
Megan McConnell and
Naelle Bernard captured the achievement when the Dukes took down UMass, 79-62. Senior
Precious Johnson was the final Duke to surpass the milestone as she captured her 1,000-career point in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, where Duquesne dominated UMass, 81-57.
In The WNIT – Duquesne will be competing in the WNIT for the 10th time in program history and for the fifth time under head coach
Dan Burt. The Dukes are 8-9 all-time in the event, including a pair of 'Sweet 16' runs in 2011 and 2015. Duquesne returns back to the tournament for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign, where it won a pair of contests over Miami Ohio (69-56) and Georgetown (69-66) before falling to St. John's (65-52) in the third round. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019-20, the tournament was cancelled as the Dukes were projected to make the WNIT.
