LAST TIME OUT
- The Dukes completed a perfect, 4-0 homestand with a 12-9 victory over Akron on Tuesday evening at Rooney Field.
- Tied at eight to start the fourth quarter, Duquesne rattled off four consecutive scores to take control of the contest (12-8) and held on for the win.
- Junior midfielder Mackenzie Leszczynski recorded her 100th career point as a Duke behind a game-high six points with four goals and two assists. Leszczynski entered the game with 98 points and hit the century mark with a pair of first-quarter goals. The 100th point came on a free position attempt at the 1:19 mark in the first to put DU up 3-2.
- Corinne Webb tallied three scores, her fourth straight game with three or more, Jillian Caroselli scored twice, while Emma Raines, Charlotte Stamper, and Ali Evans all added one goal apiece ... The scores by Stamper and Evans were career firsts for the freshmen duo, which came back-to-back in the fourth quarter.
- DU assisted on seven of the 12 goals. Emelie Curtis, Tristen Chang, Lindsay Newton Hanna Pawela, and Lizzie Cleary joined Leszczynski (2) in the assist column.
- Pawela recorded nine of the 16 caused turnovers to lead the defense, which held Akron to one shot and nine turnovers in the fourth quarter.
- Megan LaBorne picked up her first win of the season in goal, playing the full second half.
FOUR IN A ROW
- Duquesne, winners of four straight, improved to 4-1 with Tuesday's win, the best start since starting 4-1 in 2019 (Coach Desrosiers first season) ... A fifth consecutive win would be the longest win streak since 2014, when the Dukes won 10 in a row during a 14-4 season.
- DU's 3-1 start was just the third time (2014 & '19) with three wins in the first four games of a season since 2001.
NATIONAL LEADER x2
- Junior defender Hanna Pawela leads the NCAA averaging 5.60 caused turnovers per game AND 5.40 ground balls per game.
- In the home opener, she set a new DU single-game record with 10 CTs and has had eight or more in three of the five games.
- The 10 caused turnovers vs. EMU were the most by any player in Division I since Elizabeth Small (Sacred Heart) had 10 against Vermont on Feb. 28, 2020.
- No other player in Division 1 has caused more than six turnovers in a game this season ... Pawela has three games with eight or more.
- She was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week, for the first time in her career, on Feb. 19 after the record 10 caused turnovers and a career-best eight ground balls in the home opener vs. EMU.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
- Radford is still in search of its first win in 2024, entering 0-4 with an 0-2 home record.
- The Highlanders are coming off their closest game of the season, a 15-10 loss versus Campbell.
- Radford opened the season at A-10 foe George Mason, the Patriots won 16-8.
- Last season, Radford posted a 5-12 record with all five wins coming at home (5-5).
- Sophomore midfielder Mady Cheney has scored in all four games and leads the team with 10 goals - the third most in the Big South.
- Goalkeeper Olivia Hunter has started all four games in net and is second in the Big South with 27 saves, 20 of which came last game vs. Campbell.
DEFENSIVE DUKES
- The Dukes lead all of Division I averaging 26.20 ground balls per game, and are second in caused turnovers per game at 15.80.
- Duquesne has three of the top-four caused turnover games in the A-10 this season (24 vs. EMU, 19 vs. UDM, 16 vs. Akron) ... The 24 CTs vs. EMU are the most by any D1 team this season.
- DU scooped 35 ground balls vs. Detroit Mercy, the fifth-most in a game this season in Division I.=
STAT STANDOUTS
- Duquesne dishes out 7.20 assists per game, which is 25th nationally.
- Mackenzie Leszczynski leads the A-10 in shots on goal per game (5.40) and is second in total shots (7.00/g).
- Leszczynski and Corinne Webb are tied for fourth in the A-10 with 18 points, while Webb's team-leading 16 goals rank third in the A-10 and 18th nationally.
- Duquesne has three in the top-seven of the A-10 in caused turnovers per game; Hanna Pawela (1st - 5.60), Emily O'Donnell (4th - 1.80), Emily King (7th - 1.60).
- Goalkeeper Rachel O'Toole is fifth in the A-10 averaging 2.80 ground balls per game.
CURTIS CONNECTION
- Senior Emelie Curtis leads the A-10 and ranks sixth in Division I with 14 assists.
- The Yardley, Pa. product has had three or more assists three times this season.
- Curtis also has three goals for 17 points.
- Her five assists in the win over EMU were the most in a game by a Duke since March 2019, and are tied for the most in a game by an A-10 player this year.
MAGIC NUMBER 16
- The Dukes are 23-1 in the Desrosiers Era (since 2019) when scoring more than 15 goals ... 2-0 this season (EMU and YSU).
