Washington, D.C. – Following her performance this past week, senior guard
Megan McConnell of the Duquesne women's basketball team, was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
McConnell led the Dukes to a pair of victories last week, extending their winning streak to six games. She guided Duquesne to a 65-48 win over Bucknell on Tuesday night, followed by a commanding 90-66 victory over Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
The Pittsburgh native enjoyed a prolific week, averaging 24.0 points, 6.5 steals, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and a 5.0 assist-to-turnover ratio while shooting .600 percent from the field and .467 percent from behind the arc. She began her week scoring 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor while collecting six rebounds, four assists, and four steals while knocking down a pair of triples against the Bison. The senior guard put together a career day against the Golden Griffins. McConnell posted a career-high 35 points on 14-of-21 shooting (.667) from the floor while tying her career-best with five three-pointers. She also set a personal best with nine steals, tying for the third most in program history. McConnell dished out six assists and tallied four rebounds during the win.
A product of Chartiers Valley, McConnell continues to lead the Atlantic 10 in numerous statistical categories and has earned national recognition. She ranks first in NCAA Division I in steals per game (4.40) while sitting second in total steals (44). Her assist-to-turnover ratio (2.85) and assists per game (5.7) rank 21
st in the country while her three-pointers per game (2.90) and total triples (29) sit 22
nd and 27
th nationally.
McConnell is just one of 11 players in the country to register a triple-double this season as she also sits second in the league and 33
rd in NCAA Division I in double-doubles with four. The senior guard is averaging 19.2 points per contest which leads the conference and ranks 37
th nationally. McConnell has recorded double figures in all 10 contests this season while leading the team in scoring six times.
McConnell garners the award for the third time in her career and becomes the first Duke this year to collect the award.
