Washington, D.C. – For the third time this season, freshman guard
Alexis Bordas of the Duquesne women's basketball team has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Bordas delivered a season-best performance to help Duquesne snap a three-game skid with an 84–69 victory over Pitt in the annual City Game. The freshman poured in a season-high 38 points, shooting 11-of-22 (50.0 percent) from the floor and 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from three-point range. She was perfect at the free-throw line, going 6-of-6, while adding five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Bordas took control in the second half, scoring 22 of her 38 points on 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) shooting, including an impressive 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Her performance peaked in the third quarter, when she erupted for 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a flawless 4-of-4 from long range.
The 38-point outing ties for the sixth-most in program history and matches the highest total in the
Dan Burt era. Her 10 made three-pointers rank second all-time at Duquesne, while her 18 attempts are the most in program history under Burt.
The West Virginia native continues to put together a stellar campaign, averaging 15.6 points per game, the eighth-best in the Atlantic 10, while also contributing 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest. Bordas is averaging more than three three-pointers per game, ranking 11th nationally and first in the conference, while her 38 made triples place her 15th in NCAA Division I and third in the league. The rookie is shooting just under 37.0 percent from beyond the arc, good for sixth in the A-10.
Bordas earns the weekly award for the third time this season, becoming the first Duke since Kadri-Ann Lass to receive the honor three times in a single season.
