Women's Tennis Battles at Viking Invitational

Cleveland, Ohio – The Duquesne University women's tennis team continued its fall portion of the schedule by taking part in the Vikings Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State this weekend.

Day 1 – Friday Results
During doubles competition on Friday, the Dukes battled Youngstown State first before taking on Bowling Green. Against the Penguins, junior Jasa Roka and sophomore Mila Badis captured a 6-2 victory over Ghada Dirninger and Yeseniia Ovcharova in the second slot. Sophomore Alexandra O'Brien and senior Kaya Rand fell to Yoana Dudova and Lili Minich,7-5 while junior Taisia Yakunina and sophomore Sofia Serrano dropped a 6-4 decision to Line Greyling and Lorena Cedeno.

Against the Falcons, Rand and O'Brien fell to Lucia Gaio and Qianyu Liu, 7-5 in the first spot before Roka and Badics dropped a 6-4 decision to Konstantina Adamopoulou and Leticia Fonseca in slot two. Freshman Sofia Lopez-Linares Perez and Denisse Arinez Guilarte fell by a count of 6-4 to Tia Clemens and Ellie Hire.

Duquesne battled Cleveland State in singles competition on day one, with Yakunina capturing lone win for the Dukes, defeating Jenna Redmile, 6-4, 6-3.

Day 2 – Saturday Results
The Dukes opened the second day of the invitational by battling Youngstown State in singles competition. Out of eight singles matches, Duquesne picked up five victories on the afternoon. O'Brien secured the first victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lorena Cedeno before Roka captured a victory over Line Greyling, 6-1, 7-6 (6). Yakunina would collect a 46-, 6-1, 1-0(5) win over Lydia Foster as Rand followed with 6-0, 6-1 defeat over Yoana Dudova. Lopez-Linares Perez would tally the final singles victory for the Dukes, defeating Sarah Partida 6-1, 6-3.

Duquesne battled Bowling Green and the host Cleveland State during doubles competition on Saturday. Against the Falcons, O'Brien and Rand secured a 7-6 (3) victory over Adamopoulou and Liu while Yakunina and Serrano captured a win over Chaffee and Hire, 6-1. Against the Vikings, Lopez-Linares Perez and Arinez Guilarte would register the lone win for the Dukes, recording a 6-2 win over Jenna Redmile and Filippa Frogner.

Day 3 – Sunday Results
Duquesne conclude play at the Viking Invitational on Sunday while battling Bowling Green in singles competition. The Dukes captured six victories on the day as Badics secured a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(4) over Qianyu Liu while Rand registered a 6-4, 7-5 over Konstantina Adamopoulou. Roka defeated Leticia Fonseca, 7-5, 6-3 before Serrano carded a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Isabella Norris. Lopez-Linares Perez would sting together a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ellie Hire while Arinez Guilarte took down Sumejja Plicanic 6-4, 6-2.

The Dukes return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 – Sunday, Oct. 27 when they get ready for the ITA Regionals.
