Duquesne Opened Fall Season at CMU Invitational

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team battled Carnegie Mellon on Friday, earning two singles victories and a pair of doubles wins in its opening competition at the CMU Invitational.

Junior Dasha Chichkina picked up Duquesne's first singles victory, defeating Carnegie Mellon's Shelly Zinchenko, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Classmate Naomi Lalonde also secured a win at No. 5 singles, overcoming Victoria Gazda, 7-5, 6-0.

The Dukes came close to adding another singles victory at No. 3, where senior Mila Badics won the opening set against Ancele Dolensek, 6-2. Dolensek responded by taking the second set, 6-2, before edging Badics in the deciding super tiebreaker, 1-0(3).

Duquesne found its rhythm in doubles, claiming victories at both No. 2 and No. 3. Junior Denisse Arinez Guilarte and Lalonde teamed up for a 6-2 win over Chowdhury/Ertan, while senior Sofia Serrao and freshman Jana Bozinovska posted a 6-2 victory against Hou/Hsieh.
