MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Duquesne women's tennis team spent the weekend competing at West Virginia University in the Martha Thorn Invitational. The Dukes played 36 matches and finished with a team record of 13-23.

Duquesne got off to a tough start on Friday winning just one of its 12 matches, battling against opponents from James Madison, Louisville, and Maryland, but bounced back with a winning record in day two over 16 matches (9-7) before finishing Sunday 3-5. The tournament featured doubles and singles play on Friday and Saturday, then exclusively was singles action Sunday. The Dukes went 5-7 in doubles, including a 4-4 mark on Saturday, then was 8-20 in the 1v1 battles.

The duos of Kaya Rand/Mila Badics and Taisia Yakunina/Ellen Shanahan each went 2-1 to lead the way in doubles. Ana Utrilla Benito, Rand, and Yakunina all went 2-1 in singles play to pace the Red and Blue.
