PREVIEW: Duquesne vs. Vermont

The Dukes are looking to make it three wins in a row on Saturday as they host Vermont at 1:00 P.M. ET.

THE SERIES - vs. VERMONT
  • The Dukes and Catamounts have never played. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
SCOUTING VERMONT
  • Vermont is 7-3 and on a six-game win streak that started on Nov. 21 against Army.
  • The Catamounts' last two wins have been by 20 and 21 points against Saint Francis and Marist, respectively. 
  • Emma Utterback leads the team with 15.0 points per game. Catherine Gilwee is shooting .479 from three and has made six threes in each of the past two games.
  • Anna Olson leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game.
  • Both Utterback and Olson were named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team. 
  • Vermont was picked to finish third in the conference this season. The Catamounts finished 13-5 in conference play last season.
  • The Catamounts are led by head coach Alisa Kresge, who is 43-34 in her fourth season at Vermont.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Duquesne beat Kent State in a thriller Wednesday night, winning 73-67. 
  • With the win, Dan Burt tied the all-time wins record for Duquesne women's basketball at 176.
  • Tess Myers was 6-for-8 from three and had 23 points. Both those totals tied career highs.
  • Amaya Hamilton also had two career highs - 22 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Megan McConnell recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Duquesne shot 48.1 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from three.
ALL-TIME WINS RECORD
  • Dan Burt is one win away from breaking the all-time wins record at Duquesne. 
  • He tied the record on Dec. 7 against Kent State.
  • Dan Durkin (1994-2007) has had the record since 2007 with 176 wins. 
  • Burt currently sits at 176 wins. 
STAT CHECK
  • Megan McConnell is the ONLY player in the NCAA - men's or women's, in any of the three divisons - to have two triple-doubles this year. Her 9.3 defensive rebounds per game ranks second in the nation and her 10.7 rebounds per game rank 16th nationally. Her 29 steals are the 12th-most in the country and her 6.0 assists per game lead the A-10 and rank 19th nationally. 
  • Tess Myers leads the A-10 and ranks ninth in the country with 3.33 three-pointers per game this season. Her 30 three-pointers made are the fifth-most in the country. Her 90 total threes last season led the conference and ranked 14th in the nation. 
  • The Dukes lead the A-10 in rebounds per game (42.0, 52nd in nation) and defensive rebounds per game (31.0, 16th in nation). Their field goal percentage defense (35.1%) ranks first in the conference and 39th nationally.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
  • Since taking over as head coach in the 2013-14 season, Dan Burt has led the Dukes to a 92-39 record in home games. 
  • Not including the shortened 2020-21 season (only five home games), the Dukes haven't had a losing record at home since 2006-07 and never have under Burt.
  • The Dukes went 8-7 at home last season in their first full season at the upgraded UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
  • Duquesne is 5-1 at home this season.
LOCK DOWN D
  • Duquesne ranks 39th in the country and first in the conference in field goal percentage defense, with opposing teams shooting just 35.1 percent against the Dukes.
  • The Dukes' scoring defense ranks fifth in the conference as opposing teams have scored just 61.7 points per game.
  • The Dukes held opponents to under 50 points five times last season and won eight games by double digits. They have won four games by double-digits already this year.
  • Duquesne held an opponent to under 50 points just once during the previous 2020-21 season (George Mason) and did not win any games in 2020-21 by double digits.
BEASTS ON THE BOARDS
  • Megan McConnell leads the A-10 with 10.7 rebounds per game, which ranks 16th nationally. Her 9.2 defensive rebounds per game rank second in the nation.
  • She led the team with 6.4 rebounds per game last season, which ranked 10th in the conference. 
  • McConnell hauled in at least five rebounds in 22 games last season. She has five or more in all nine games so far this year.
  • Precious Johnson ranks second on the team and 15th in the conference with 6.6 rebounds per game. 
  • Duquesne's 31.5 defensive rebounds per game ranks 16th in the country. The Dukes' 42.9 rebounds per game rank 52nd in the country. 
MS. TRIPLE-DOUBLE
  • Megan McConnell is the ONLY player in the NCAA - men's or women's, in any of the three divisions - to have two triple-doubles this season.
  • Her first came on Nov. 11 against Brown. She scored 10 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
  • Her second came against Delaware on Dec. 4 when she had 12 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. 
  • She is just the second player in A-10 women's basketball history to have multiple triple-doubles in the same season. 
  • She is the first Duquesne women's basketball player to have multiple triple-doubles in their career - let alone 23 days apart.
  • Only one other player has had three triple-doubles in a season in A-10 history - Megan's aunt, Susie McConnell (Penn State, 3, 1988).
LET ME ASSIST YOU
  • The Dukes have at least 14 assists in eight of nine games this year and rank fourth in the A-10 with an assist/turnover ratio of 1.11.
  • Duquesne had 22 assists against Siena on Nov. 22, the most this season and most since the 21-22 season-high of 24 against St. Bonaventure on Feb. 20, 2022. 
  • Megan McConnell leads the team with 6.0 assists per game, which leads the conference.
  • Duquesne posted double-digit assist totals in each of the last 27 games to end the 2021-22 campaign. 
  • The Dukes led the A-10 with 14.79 assists per game last season.
RAINING TREYS
  • The Dukes rank third in the A-10 and 22nd in the country with 8.8 three-pointers per game.
  • Tess Myers leads the A-10 with 3.33 threes per game, which ranks 9th in the nation.
  • Her 30 three-pointers made ranks  top-5 in the country. 
  • The Dukes have already made 13 threes in a game, shooting 44.8% from long range against Brown on Nov. 11, which was the fourth-highest total in program history. 
  • Last year's team made 214 three-pointers, which is tied for the fifth-most in Duquesne history.
