Duquesne continues its 2022-23 season at home with matchups against Brown and Manhattan Friday and Sunday.

Both matchups will be broadcasted on ESPN+. The Brown game on Friday begins at 6:00 PM ET while the Manhattan game begins at 2:00 PM ET on Sunday.

THE SERIES - vs. BROWN
  • The Dukes and Bears are meeting for the second time ever. The last meeting was in 2008.
  • The Dukes won the first matchup, which was at a neutral site in Coral Gables, Fla. at the UM Holiday Classic.
  • Brown has never traveled to Pittsburgh to play the Dukes.
SCOUTING BROWN
  • Brown is 0-1 and looking for its first win of the year.
  • The Bears lost to Fairfield, 62-52, in their home opener Monday night.
  • The Bears return their top-six scorers from last season, including Isabella Mauricio (14.4 ppg) and Kyla Jones (12.9 ppg).
  • Mya Murray is back to anchor the Brown defense after finishing last season with a team-high 5.9 rebounds and 32 blocks.
  • The Bears lineup features eight newcomers that will look to make an impact on what is still a young roster.
  • Brown was picked to finish eighth in the Ivy Leage this season as it is coming off a 6-20 21- 22 campaign.
  • Brown is led by head coach Monique LeBlanc. She is in her third year at Brown and has a 135-142 overall coaching record over 12 years.
THE SERIES - vs. BROWN
  • The Dukes and Jaspers have only played once in 2019.
  • Duquesne won the matchup, 75-65, on the road at Manhattan.
  • This will be Manhattan's first time traveling to Pittsburgh.
SCOUTING MANHATTAN
  • Entering the weekend, Manhattan is 0-1 and coming off a loss to Wagner at home Monday night, 63-60.
  • The Jaspers were selected second in the preseason poll and recieved three first-place votes.
  • Dee Dee Davis was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason First-Team All-MAAC. Brazil Harvey-Carr earned Preseason Second-Team honors.
  • Manhattan finished the season 21-11 and 14-6 in MAAC play before falling in the MAAC Championship.
  • Emily LaPointe scored 18 in the opener while Dee Dee Davis put up 17.
  • Jade Blagrove grabbed 12 rebounds in the first game of the season.
  • Manhattan is led by head coach Heather Vulin. She is in her seventh year at Manhattan and has an overall record of 80-94.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Duquesne's season began with a 94-47 blowout win over Point Park at home on Monday
  • night.
  • Megan McConnell led Duquesne with 17 points on 6-6 shooting and had five steals.
  • Tess Myers and Ayanna Townsend each put up 16 points.
  • Townsend and McConnell led the team with 10 rebounds.
  • Amaya Hamilton put up 14 points, eight rebounds and a team-leading seven assists.
  • Duquesne shot 48.8% from the field and out-rebounded the Pioneers 55-38.
ALL-TIME WINS RECORD
  • Dan Burt is six wins away from tying and seven wins away from breaking the all-time wins record at Duquesne.
  • Dan Burkin (1994-2007) has the record with 176 wins.
  • Burt currently sits at 170 wins.
STAT CHECK
  • Tess Myers led the A-10 and ranked eighth in the country with 3.10 three-pointers per game last season. Her 90 total threes also led the conference and ranked 14th in the nation. She began this season a little slower, making only two three-pointers, but still scored 16 points.
  • Megan McConnell led the A-10 and ranked 27th nationally with 2.62 steals per game last season. She opened the year with five steals against Point Park, setting herself up for another big year in that department.
  • McConnell is one of three players in the NATION to have a perfect 100% FG% with six or more FG attempts.
  • Transfer Ayanna Townsend had a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) in her first game as a Duke. She now has five in her career (4 at Xavier).
  • Precious Johnson ranked fifth in the A-10 with 1.10 blocked shots per game last season. She blocked three shots in the home opener.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
  • In the first game of the year, Duquesne put up 94 points and showed off the fast and furious offense that head coach Dan Burt has been talking about.
  • The Dukes broke the 80-point mark only twice last season, and they'll look to hit that mark just one week into the 2022-23 season.
  • With four of their top six leading scorers from last year back, the Dukes have an offensive core ready to put up points this year.
A-10 ELITE
  • Since taking over as head coach in 2013-14, Dan Burt has led the Dukes to 170 wins. Only Dayton (192) and Fordham (183) have amassed more wins during that span among A-10 teams.
  • The Dukes are also one of four Atlantic 10 programs to post a winning season in at least seven of the past nine seasons (Dayton, Fordham, & VCU). Duquesne is also tied for the third-most A-10 wins (87) since Burt took over as head coach.
  • Since 2013-14, the Dukes have led the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense (2x), scoring margin, field goal percentage (2x), free throw percentage and assists per game (3x).
  • Duquesne has ranked at least fifth in the conference in points per game, field goal percentage and assists per game in all but one season since 2014-15.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
  • Since taking over as head coach in the 2013-14 season, Dan Burt has led the Dukes to a 88-38 record in home games.
  • Not including the shortened 2020-21 season (only five home games), the Dukes haven't had a losing record at home since 2006-07 and never have under Burt.
  • The Dukes went 8-7 at home last season in their first full season at the upgraded UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
  • Duquesne is 1-0 at home this season.
PRESEASON HONORS
  • Sophomore Tess Myers earned a spot on the 2022 A-10 Preseason All-Conference Third Team, as announced by the league during its media day on Oct. 18.
  • Sophomore Megan McConnell was selected to the 2022 A-10 Preseason All-Defensive Team after leading the conference with 2.6 steals per game in 2021-22.
  • In the coaches poll, Duquesne was picked
NEWCOMERS
  • Junior forward Ayanna Townsend is back home after transferring from Xavier. She was a team captain and averaged 9.1 ppg and 5.5 rpg last season. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
  • Redshirt freshman center Selma Kulo comes to Pittsburgh after two season at Western Kentucky. She led the team with 21 blocks and has three years of eligibility remaining.
  • Sophomore guard Naelle Bernard is a transfer from Salt Lake City C.C. with three seasons of eligibility remaining. She led Salt Lake City with 9.0 ppg last season.
  • Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Ammons appeared in 12 games as a freshman at DePaul last season. She was ranked the No. 1 prospect out of West Virginia and the No. 79 recruit nationall in the class of 2021.
  • Freshman guard Reilly Sunday is from the local Moon Area High School and earned All-State Honors while leading her team to the PIAA Class 5A quarterfinals last season.
  • Freshman guard Dea Pushkolli is from Kosovo but spent the last three seasons playing in the U.S.
LOCAL PRODUCTS
  • The Dukes have seven girls from the Pittsburgh region, plus another from Wana, W. Va., which is about 70 miles away from Duquesne.
  • The seven high schools that the Pennsylvania players are from - Ambridge, Chartiers Valley, Moon, Mars, Bethel Park, North Catholic and Winchester Thurston - are all WPIAL schools.
