NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Freshman midfielder
Mackenzie Muir and freshman forward
Margey Brown were each named to the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer All-Rookie Team on Tuesday, as announced by the conference.
Duquesne was one of only two teams to have multiple players selected to the All-Rookie Team, along with Dayton (2).
"I couldn't be more proud of Margey and Mackenzie for being recognized for their contributions this season," said head coach
Al Alvine. "It's a great way to start their Duquesne careers and we look forward to even more accolades and success from them and the entire team in the coming seasons."
Muir earns a spot on the team following an impressive freshman season that resulted in four goals and nine points, both of which were the second-most on the team. She hit this mark while playing in only 13 matches due to an early-season injury that kept her out of the lineup for a few contests.
Three of her four goals this season were game-winners, which tied her for the fourth-most game-winning goals in the conference. She scored the first goal of her career on Aug. 25 in the 2-1 win over Youngstown State. Her second against Richmond on Sept. 22 and her third was against La Salle on Oct. 2.
Her 22 shots and 11 shots on goal were the third-most on the Dukes.
Brown played in all 16 matches this year and started in each of the last 12. She put up the third-most points on the team with four.
Throughout the 2022 campaign, the freshman from Medina, Ohio developed into a force on the left side of Duquesne's attack. Her one goal and two assists are somewhat deceiving, as Brown created quality chances all year. The speedy forward tallied her first assist on Aug. 25 against Youngstown State and scored her first goal on Oct. 20 against St. Bonaventure.
Out of Duquesne players with at least four shots on goal, she had the second-highest shot on goal percentage at 0.615.
Both players helped lead Duquesne to a 6-7-3 overall record (4-3-3 A-10), which secured the Dukes the No. 5 seed in the A-10 Championship.
