Pittsburgh, Pa. – Seniors Maya Matesa and Mackenzie Muir of the Duquesne University women's soccer team were each honored by United Soccer Coaches, earning All-East Region accolades. Matesa was named to the second team, while Muir was bestowed third team plaudits. It marks the first time in program history that a pair of Dukes were honored in the same season with all-region honors.

Matesa, a native of Lebanon, Ohio, and named the 2025 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, is just the third member of the Dukes to earn All-Region Second Team honors and the first in 15 years. She joins former defender Emily Sedgwick (2004-07) and former goalkeeper Gabby Morrin (2007-10), as each were named to the NSCAA/Adidas All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team in 2006 and 2010, respectively.

In 19 games during their 2025 season, Matesa led the Atlantic 10 in scoring with 39 points thanks to 17 goals and five assists. She established Duquesne single-season records for both goals and points and unleashed 94 shots throughout the year, including 45 on goal. In addition, of her 17 goals, six were of the game-winning variety. For her efforts she was named to the 2025 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team as well as the 2025 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team in addition to earning the top offensive honor from the conference.

Among NCAA Division I leaders, Matesa sits in the top 15 in the country in both total goals and total points at seventh and 12th, respectively. She also ranks in the top 10 in per game averages in both categories, ranking fifth in goals (0.89) and seventh in points (2.05).

Over a four-year career on the Bluff, Matesa established a new career standard for goals with 29 while also ranking second all-time in points (69) and shots (209) and tied for seventh in assists (11). She also owns the Duquesne single-game record for shots, unleashing 11 in a 4-0 win over Youngstown State (Sept. 11) at Rooney Field during the 2025 campaign. A three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week in 2025, Matesa also wrapped up her career tied for second in program history for game-winning goals (9).

Muir, a native of Avon, Ohio, is the fourth student-athlete at Duquesne to earn All-Region Third Team accolades, joining former midfielders Lauren Bracco (2000-03) and Linnea Faccenda (2014-17) and Sedgwick. Bracco was named to the NSCAA/Adidas All-Mid-Atlantic Third Team in 2003, while Faccenda was a two-time honoree, as she was bestowed the plaudit in both 2016 and 2017. Sedgwick, after being named all-region second team in 2006, was named to the third team in 2007.

Like Matesa, Muir started all 19 games for the Dukes in 2025, finishing third for the team in scoring with 13 points courtesy of six goals and an assist. She finished a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kick and also produced a pair of game-winning goals while logging 44 shots, including 17 on target. For her efforts, Muir was named to the 2025 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.

Among Duquesne career leaders, Muir sits eighth all-time in points (41) thanks to 14 goals and 13 assists, while her assist total ranks fifth in program history. Muir also finished with eight career game-winning tallies, one behind Matesa that sits in a tie for fourth on the Bluff. Elsewhere among assist leaders, Muir posted four in a 6-2 victory over Mercyhurst (August 15) at Rooney Field in a win that opened the 2024 season, establishing a single-game mark.

Led by head coach Jessica Giegucz, in her first year at the helm in 2025, Duquesne finished with an overall record of 12-5-2 (.684), including a ledger of 7-3 (.700) in the Atlantic 10. The Dukes finished third in the conference standings, hosted their first A-10 Championship game since 2017 and also tied a program record for wins.
