Pittsburgh, Pa. – Senior forward
Maya Matesa of the Duquesne University women's soccer team was named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Scholar All-America Third Team Thursday. A marketing major who owns a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.44, Matesa is the first student-athlete in program history to earn Scholar All-American accolades from United Soccer Coaches.
In addition to be named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Third Team, Matesa, a native of Lebanon, Ohio, was one of 10 student-athletes named to the Scholar All-East Region Team, and she was joined by senior midfielder
Mackenzie Muir. Duquesne is the only program to have multiple student-athletes bestowed Scholar All-East Region Team plaudits from United Soccer Coaches.
The pair of honors for Matesa caps arguably the most prolific season in program history. Named the 2025 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year as well as earning 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team accolades, Matesa established single-season records for the Dukes this season in goals (17) and points (39), adding five assists to her tally in 19 games. She also posted 94 shots during the 2025 campaign, 45 of which were on goal.
Among NCAA Division I leaders, Matesa concluded the year ranked in the top 10 in multiple categories. She finished fourth in both shots (4.95) and shots on goal (2.27) per game, seventh in points per contest (2.05) and eighth in game-winning goals (6) and total goals. Her point total in 2025 finished 12th.
Throughout a four-year career on the Bluff, Matesa set a new program standard for goals with 29 while also finishing second all-time in points (69) and shots (209). She is also tied for second in the Duquesne career record book for game-winning goals (9) as well as tied for seventh in career assists (11).
Matesa also owns the program's single-game record for shots, unleashing 11
in a 4-0 triumph over Youngstown State (Sept. 11) at Rooney Field during the 2025 season, a game in which she scored twice. It was part of a senior campaign in which she registered multiple goals six times, including a
hat trick in a 6-0 win at Mercyhurst (August 24).
Muir, a native of Avon, Ohio, and a physical therapy major, has maintained a 3.79 cumulative GPA as a student-athlete with the Dukes. In 19 games during the 2025 season, like Matesa each as a member of the starting lineup, Muir finished third for Duquesne in scoring with 13 points thanks to six goals and an assist. She finished a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kick and also finished with a pair of game-winning goals.
Selected to the 2025 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team as well as the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team, Muir concluded her career with the Dukes ranked eighth all-time in points (41) courtesy of 14 goals and 13 assists. Her career assist total ranks fifth on the Bluff, and she also registered eight career game-winning goals, which sits one behind Matesa in a tie for fourth in school history. Muir also owns the Duquesne single-game record for assists, finishing with four in a 6-2 victory over Mercyhurst (August 15) at Rooney Field in a win that opened the 2024 season.
Led by
Jessica Giegucz, the Dukes posted an overall record of 12-5-2 (.684) in her first season as head coach, including a mark of 7-3 (.700) in the Atlantic 10.
