The Dukes are coming off a bye week after picking up the program's first-ever victory over a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent with a 28-26 win at Ohio on Sept. 11.

- Duquesne named the STATS Perform Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Team of the Week following the upset win over Ohio. The Dukes became the first team from the Northeast Conference (NEC) to top an FBS opponent and the seventh team from the FCS ranks to defeat an FBS program during the 2021 campaign.

- Quarterback Darius Perrantes garnered NEC Offensive Player of the Week honors while kicker Brian Bruzdewicz earned NEC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades for their respective performances in the win at Ohio. Perrantes, making his first start for the Dukes, completed 23-of-34 (67.6 pct) passes for 194 yards and a passing touchdown to go with a rushing score. Bruzdewicz collected his second career conference player of the week award after connecting on a career-high four field goals and a pair of extra points on the day.

- This marks the first meeting between Duquesne and Virginia University of Lynchburg. The Dukes seek their 14th-straight home-opening victory. Since joining the FCS in 1993, Duquesne is 25-3 in home openers.

- Duquesne, led by 17th-year head coach Jerry Schmitt, returns all 22 starters from the spring season including 17 All- NEC selections. The Dukes have enjoyed a great deal of success in NEC play, claiming five conference titles since 2011. Duquesne won a share of the league crown in 2011, '13, '16 and '18 while capturing the outright title in 2015. Duquesne earned the NEC's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs in both 2015 and '18.

THE COACH
Duquesne: Jerry Schmitt (17th season / 103-69)

- Head coach Jerry Schmitt is in his 17th season at the helm of the Duquesne program. He became the Dukes' all-time winningest coach in 2019 with a 30-21 victory over Saint Francis U for his 98th win as Duquesne's head coach. Schmitt passed Greg Gattuso (1993-2004) for the most wins in program history.

- Schmitt posted his 100th win at Duquesne with the Dukes' victory at Wagner last season. He became one of nine active coaches with 100 FCS wins at their current schools.

 - Schmitt currently sits 16th among active FCS head coaches with 131 career wins.

LAST TIME OUT
Duquesne 28, Ohio 26

- Darius Perrantes recorded two total touchdowns in his first Duquesne start to lead the Dukes to their first win over a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent in program history with a 28-26 victory over Ohio at Peden Stadium.

- The Dukes (1-1) also became the first team from the NEC to defeat a team from the FBS and the seventh Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team to accomplish that feat this season. The game against Ohio was Duquesne's fifth against an FBS foe since joining the FCS ranks in 1993.

On the two-point conversion attempt, Rourke threw a fade route to the left corner of the end zone, but Duquesne cornerback Tim Lowery broke up the pass to seal the Dukes win.

- The Duquesne defense came up with many timely stops throughout the game, forcing Ohio to convert just 1-of-7 third-down attempts in the game while the Dukes were 7-of-16 on third down and 2-of-2 on fourth down.
