PITTSBURGH - Duquesne senior
Isaac Elliott (Ambridge, Pa. / Ambridge) is slated to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division I Track & Field East Preliminary Championship beginning this Wednesday, May 26 hosted by North Florida and the Jacksonville Sports Council at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Elliott has qualified for both the 100 meter and 200 meter at the East Preliminary Championship. The first round of the 100 meter will begin on Wednesday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m. ET with the 200 meter starting at 8:45 p.m. ET.
The NCAA is split into two regions - the East and the West - with the East Preliminary Championship held in Jacksonville and the West Preliminary Championship hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. Athletes ranked in the top 48 in their respective event in their region qualify for the preliminary championship, seeking to be one of 12 in that event from the preliminary site to qualify for the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. in June.
Elliott is the first Duquesne men's track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Championship since Kyle Trinch in 2016, who competed in the 400-meter hurdles for the Dukes.
Elliott was the first Duquesne student-athlete to be named the Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Track Performer at the conference championship meet in early May after winning his second-straight gold medal in both the 100m and 200m, shattering his own school records in both events. He posted a time of 10.29 in the 100m, besting his own school record for the fourth time this season to go with a mark of 20.84 in the 200m, topping his school record of 21.12 set in 2019. In addition, Elliott helped the Dukes' 4x100-meter relay team take home bronze at the 2021 A-10 Championship.
At last weekend's IC4A Championship, Elliott garnered Co-Performer of the Meet honors after pacing the 100 meter with a time of 10.40 in the finals and the 200 meter with a mark of 21.14. He added a fifth-place showing in the 4x100-meter relay at 41.46 at the meet.
The top 24 times from the first round of the NCAA Prelimininary on Wednesday in each event will qualify for the quarterfinals on Friday.
