PITTSBURGH – Duquesne University head men's basketball coach
Keith Dambrot announced today that
Davis Larson (Sheboygan, Wis./Hillsdale) has made the move from graduate assistant to the active roster for the 2021-22 season.
A three-year starter at Division II Hillsdale (Mich.) College, the 6-5 Larson came to the Bluff over the summer as a member of the support staff and is currently enrolled as a graduate student.
"We kind of took a page from the South Carolina football playbook," said Dambrot, referring to Gamecocks quarterback Zeb Noland who made the move from GA to the active roster in August. "We hadn't considered Davis as a player until we had an injury to
Austin Rotroff and that triggered the thought process for us. We had a scholarship available and thought he'd be a good fit.
"Davis played for an outstanding program at Hillsdale, under coach [John] Tharp," continued Dambrot. "He has won everywhere he's been dating back to high school. Based on his time here, we already knew that he's a student of the game. As a player he is very intelligent with diversified skills that can help us."
Larson scored 991 points in 105 games as a three-year starter at Hillsdale. A 51.1 percent career shooter (43.3 percent from 3-point), he scored in double digits 49 times, with all 49 coming in his last three seasons (74 games).
The three-time All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference player helped 21-3 Hillsdale advance to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Final in 2020-21.
A Dean's List student, Larson completed his undergraduate degree in financial management at Hillsdale in the spring of 2021. He is working toward his master's in leadership at Duquesne.
