Duquesne Freezes Loyola Chicago

Guinyard scores 19 of his game-high 23 points in second half to lift Dukes

Chicago, Ill. – Senior guard Tarence Guinyard scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to lead the Duquesne University men's basketball team to a 71-59 victory over Loyola Chicago Saturday at Joseph J. Gentile Arena. The Dukes improved to 11-9 (.550) overall during the 2025-26 season, including 3-4 (.429) in the Atlantic 10. In earning the win over the Ramblers, it marks the first time in program history Duquesne has earned each of its first three conference wins of a season on the road.
 
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Xavier Amos hit a pair of free throws with 9:32 remaining to help trim the deficit for Loyola Chicago to 49-47. The Dukes responded on their next possession, with senior forward David Dixon driving the lane to convert. The layup sparked a 13-3 run that helped Duquesne open up a 62-50 lead with five-and-a-half minutes to play. Guinyard capped the burst with three-pointers on consecutive possessions to help bolster the Dukes. Junior guard Jimmie Williams added another three-pointer with 4:22 to go, and Guinyard would help put the game away at 3:45 with a triple that pushed the lead for Duquesne to 68-54. Guinyard finished 6-for-11 from the field after halftime, including 5-for-7 from deep, and also hit both of his attempts at the free-throw line. He entered Saturday's game averaging 17.8 points in six road games and improved that average to 18.6 with his performance against the Ramblers.
 
BAND ON THE RUN
Loyola Chicago (5-16 | 1-7 Atlantic 10) grabbed a 23-20 advantage with 4:42 to go in the first half thanks to a layup from Alexander Richardson, but the Dukes used an 11-0 run to jump in front, 31-23. A driving layup from forward John Hugley IV tied it, 23-23, while a three-pointer from the top of the key from Guinyard hit the front of the rim, kissed the glass and fell through the cylinder to push Duquesne in front. The Dukes also got a 3-for-4 performance from Jimmie Williams at the free-throw line during the burst. Williams scored 11 points in the opening 20 minutes to stretch his streak for consecutive games scoring in double figures to 15 as Duquesne lead at the break, 34-28.

Redshirt junior guard Brandon Hall earned his first start at the NCAA Division I level against the Ramblers in his hometown of Chicago, Ill. … Hall finished with three points, a pair of rebounds, two assists and a block in 20 minutes of action … In a matchup of two of the top shot blockers in the Atlantic 10, Dixon posted three for the Dukes while Miles Rubin rejected a pair of shots for Loyola Chicago … Dixon has finished with at least three blocks in six of Duquesne's seven conference games … Duquesne shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the field … The Dukes held the Ramblers to a 5-of-26 (19.2%) performance from beyond the arc … Amos was the only player for Loyola Chicago to score in double figures with 12 points … Duquesne owned a 33-32 advantage on the glass, with Williams registering his first career double-double thanks to a career-high 10 rebounds to go along with 16 points.
