PREVIEW: @DuqWBB vs. UMass

PITTSBURGH – The top two teams in the Atlantic 10 during non-conference play will square off to open up the conference slate, as the Duquesne women's basketball team opens 2020 on Saturday evening hosting UMass at La Roche University. The Dukes (10-3) and Minutewomen (10-3) will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in the North Hills.

THE SERIES: Duquesne and UMass will meet for the 52nd time since 1984, as the longtime A-10 foes will square off after both teams have combined to win 17 out of its last 18 games. Duquesne leads the all-time series 28-23, including an 18-5 mark in Pittsburgh. The Minutewomen earned a 69-66 victory at the Mullins Center last February in the most recent meeting. Duquesne has not lost to UMass in Pittsburgh since Feb. 11, 2000, a streak of 10 consecutive wins at the Palumbo Center. The Dukes have won 11 of the last 13 contests in the series dating back to 2008.

LAST TIME OUT: The Dukes could not overcome an impressive defensive showing from Oklahoma State, falling 84-41 to the Cowgirls on Monday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Dukes' (10-3) win-streak was snapped at 10 games, while the Cowgirls improve to 9-3 with the victory. Laia Solé led the Dukes with 14 points on 7-13 shooting from the field, while adding five boards off the glass. Libby Bazelak grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Dukes in the category. Kiersten Elliot sunk a trio of 3-pointers on just five attempts to add nine points off the bench.

ROAD WARRIORS: Despite losing its lastest road contest to Oklahoma State, the Dukes are still among the best in the nation on the road this season with six road wins. The Dukes are tied with UConn (6-0), Loyola Chicago (6-0) and North Dakota (6-3) for the second most road wins this season. Only Cleveland State (7-2) has more wins on opponents' courts this season.

STAT CHECK: Duquesne leads the A-10 in assists per game (15.3), scoring offense (73.2 ppg). The Dukes have scored at least 72 points in every game this season until being held to 41 by a stout Oklahoma State defense. Libby Bazelak ranks third in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (50.9 percent), one of just four student-athletes to sink more than half of her 3-pointers attempted this season. Laia Sole leads the conference in field goal percentage, making 51.8 percent of her attempts.  

SCOUTING UMASS: The Minutewomen have strung together seven consecutive wins over Vermont, New Hampshire, Boston University, Siena, Iona and Southern Connecticut State, since falling to St. John's on Nov. 25. Hailey Leidel ranks second in the A-10 with 17.2 points per game, while Maeve Donnelly paces the Minutewomen off the boards with 7.2 per contest. Former Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year and Penn State transfer, Sam Breen made her UMass debut against Iona on Dec. 21, and is averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds in two games this season. As a team, UMass leads the A-10 in assist to turnover ratio (1.09), blocked shots per game (5.6), field goal percentage (43.2), scoring margin (13.5) and turnover margin (3.23).
