PREVIEW: @DuqWBB at Saint Louis

PITTSBURGH – On Sunday night, the Duquesne women's basketball team seeks its third consecutive Atlantic 10 victory, as the Dukes (13-6, 3-3) trek to Missouri to battle the Saint Louis Billikens (10-9, 2-4). The opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m. eastern time.

THE SERIES 

  • The Dukes lead the all-time series 12-5 over the Billikens, with the squads first meeting 2006.
  • Duquesne and Saint Louis split last years' contests, with the Billikens earning a 67-63 win in its first victory in Pittsburgh over the Dukes.
  • Duquesne avenged the loss with a 72-51 triumph over the Billikens in the A-10 Quarterfinal round at the Palumbo Center.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Dukes began the contest on a 13-2 run and never looked back, overpowering George Mason, 84-63, on Wednesday night at La Roche University.
  • The Dukes (13-6, 3-3) shot a season-best clip from the field (56.1 percent) and from the beyond the arc (58.8 percent), and held the Patriots (7-12, 1-5) to just 39.1 percent from the field and just 20.8 percent from long range.
  • The Dukes boasted a balanced offense throughout as Laia Solé led the squad with 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists and two blocks. 
  • Libby Bazelak connected on 7-of-10 shots from the floor for 18 points and distributed six assists.
  • Kiersten Elliott did not miss a shot on the night, pouring in a career-best 14 points in 18 minutes of action. Elliott went 4-for-4 from 3-point land, breaking her previous best of three triples against Oklahoma State.

  • Libby Bazelak continues to excel from 3-point land, ranking fourth in the country in 3-point field goal percentage (47.0 percent).
  • ranks ninth in the A-10 in scoring (12.8 ppg), fourth in assists per game (4.2) seventh in assist to turnover ratio (1.7) and second in minutes per game (34.9). She is the only player in the conference to average at least 12 points, six rebounds and four assists per game.Bazelak
  • Amanda Kalin is among the conference leaders in assist to turnover ratio (1.83, 4th), assists (77, fifth) and assists per game (4.1, fifth).
  • As a team, Duquesne leads the conference in assists (309) and assists per game (16.3) and scoring offense (71.4 ppg) and 3-point field goal percentage (34.9), while ranking second in defensive rebounds per game (29.0), 3-point field goals made (145) and 3-point field goals per game (7.6).
  • Kiersten Elliott's 4-for-4 shooting performance boosted her 3-point field goal percentage to 43.2 percent on the season. In six A-10 games this season, Elliott has sunk 7-of-15 attempts (46.7 percent) from beyond the arc.
  • The Dukes have sported a balance offense all season, with five different players scoring 20-plus points at least once this season. The Dukes have been led in scoring in a single game by eight different players (including ties) Amanda Kalin (6), Libby Bazelak (4), Laia Sole (4), Paige Cannon (2), Amaya Hamilton (2), Angela Staffileno (1), Precious Johnson (1) and Nina Aho (1).

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS 

  • Saint Louis is coming off back-to-back road losses to Dayton and Fordham, holding a 2-4 record in A-10 play.
  • The Billikens lead the league in blocks (99) and blocks per game (5.2) and also excel in field goal percentage defense (2nd – 36.5 percent), rebound margin (2nd - +5.3) and 3-point field goal defense (3rd – 29.3 percent).
  • Ciaja Harbison leads the Billikens and ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 with 15 points per game.
  • Mriama Smith-Traore (2nd – 8.4 rpg) and Brooke Flowers (8th – 6.9 rpg) rank in the top 10 in the conference in rebounding
  • Both Flowers (2nd – 2.3 bpg) and Smith-Traore (7th – 1.1 bpg) also rank in the top 10 in the A-10 in blocks.
