Sincere Carry leads way with 27 points

Sincere Carry had a game-high 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
PITTSBURGH - Sincere Carry scored a game-high 27 points and first-year grad transfer Baylee Steele added 19 points and a game-high 15 rebounds as Duquesne pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Raw Talent Elite, 103-89, in the first game of the Dukes' Bahamas Tour on Wednesday night at Sir Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau.

Lamar Norman Jr. added 18 points (4-of-8 from 3-point) and Tavian Dunn-Martin finished with 11 points and a game-high seven assists for the Dukes, who led 77-70 after three quarters.

A James Ellis 3-pointer gave Duquesne an 84-74 lead with 8:03 left. Raw Talent Elite cut it to eight twice, but could get no closer as the Dukes maintained a double-digit lead over the last 2:58.

The two teams combined for 73 free throws with the Dukes going 27-of-37 and RTE finishing 27-of-36.

"That was just a rough and tumble game," said DU head coach Keith Dambrot. "It was a really hard game to play, because there was really no flow with all the whistles. Our guys were able to fight through it. We still need to shoot it better."

Duquesne, which went 8-of-31 from the 3-point arc, shot 40 percent for the game. Raw Talent Elite, which was led by Adam Johnson and Dominic Bridgewater with 23 points each, finished at 51 percent.

DU, which turned it over 14 times, was able to turn 24 RTE turnovers into 28 points. Freshman Maceo Austin and Norman Jr. led the Dukes with three steals each.

"It was good to get the guys out on the court," said Dambrot, who was allowed 10 team practices prior to the trip. "Baylee Steele, who has worked really hard, gave us a presence in the paint and Sincere played well offensively. We did miss our other big guys though."

The Dukes are currently without sophomore forwards Austin Rotroff and Amari Kelly, who are recovering from ACL injuries suffered last season. Junior center Michael Hughes and freshman swingman Ashton Miller didn't play due to minor injuries suffered during pre-tour practices.

Duquesne completes its tour on Friday, Aug. 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Abaco Elite. In game stats may be found on the Bahamas Basketball Federation website.
