Preview: @DuqLax Opens Season vs. Longwood

GAME NOTES
  • The Duquesne lacrosse team will open the 2018 campaign on Sunday at noon ET hosting Longwood in a non-conference contest at Rooney Field. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
  • It will be the Dukes' first game under first-year head coach Corinne Desrosiers, who is set to lead Duquesne after four seasons as the head coach at Florida Tech. She was named the first head coach in program history at Florida Tech in 2013 and quickly turned the Panthers into a national contender, helping FIT to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.
  • Duquesne midfielder Maddie Hart (Sykesville, Md. / Century) returns after setting a single-season program record with 80 draw controls last season. She is also the Dukes' leading returning goal scorer (24 goals last year).
  • Fellow midfielder Carlee Braverman (Laurel, N.J. / Lenape) also returns after garnering Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors.
  • Goaltender Maddy Curtis (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) made five starts in net for Duquesne last season, tallying at least 10 saves in the last four games of the year.
THE SERIES
  • This is the second meeting between the two teams. Duquesne claimed a 10-7 victory in the first meeting in 2006 at the University of Denver, giving first-year head coach Mike Scerbo his first win with the Dukes.
  • Kelly Mulford paced Duquesne with four goals while Courtney Tamasitis netted two scores for the Dukes in the win.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
  • The Lancers are coming off a 7-11 finish in 2018 including a 2-5 mark in Big South play. Longwood opens the year with three games against the Atlantic 10 - Duquesne, George Washington and George Mason.
  • Attacker Kaitlin Luccarelli was named to the Preseason All-Big South team, entering her junior season with 81 career goals.
NEXT UP
  • The Dukes hit the road to take on Butler on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. in Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Duquesne then returns home for three straight at Rooney Field against No. 10 Penn State (Feb. 20), Saint Francis U (Feb. 27) and Detroit Mercy (March 3).
