PREVIEW: @DuqWBB Looks to Stay Hot against Toledo at La Roche

PITTSBURGH – After defeating its previous three opponents by an average of 27.7 points per game, the Duquesne women's basketball team looks to extend its win streak to seven on Saturday night, when the Dukes (6-2) battle the Toledo Rockets (2-4) in its first of nine home games at La Roche University this season. All Duquesne women's basketball games at La Roche are free to attend.

THE SERIES:  The Dukes and Rockets held home-and-homes from 1999 to 2000, 2002 to 2003, and 2017 to 2018. Overall, Toledo leads the series 4-2, including last year's 65-52 win at Savage Arena. The last time the Rockets came to Pittsburgh in 2017, the Dukes defeated Toledo, 73-54 at the Palumbo Center. Chassidy Omogrosso, Julijana Vojinovic and Kadri-Ann Lass combined for 49 points.    

LAST TIME OUT:  Led by a program-record tying 14 3-pointers, the Duquesne women's basketball cruised to its sixth consecutive victory with an 88-63 win over Akron on Wednesday morning at James A. Rhodes Arena. The Dukes tied the school record of 14 triples, which was set on Feb. 25, 2009 on the road against La Salle. The mark is the most-ever for Duquesne in non-conference play.The Dukes (6-2) shot 51 percent from the field (34-67 FG) and 54 percent from long range (14-26), while holding the Zips (4-3) to shoot just 5-of-18 (28 percent) from long range. Duquesne also owned the glass, out-rebounding Akron 45-31. The Dukes posted a season-best 21 assists on 34 field goals made. Paige Cannon led the way with five treys on just six attempts for a career-high 21 points and surpassed 500 career points in the game. The Ohio native also led the Dukes with 11 rebounds in her homecoming to the Buckeye State for her first double-double of the season and the fifth of her career.  

ROAD WARRIORS: The Dukes have been among the nation's best road teams this season, posting a 5-1 record in its first six road games this season. Duquesne is tied with UConn (5-0) and Loyola Chicago (5-0) for the most roads win as of Dec. 6 in all of Division I basketball (351). The Dukes are averaging 77.7 points per game on the road, while holding the opposition to 69 points.

THE STREAK: After falling to Kent State and Temple to begin the season, the Dukes have reeled off six consecutive victories against Manhattan, Iona, Lafayette, Pitt, Central Connecticut State and Akron. The Dukes' win-streak is currently tied for 15th best in the country with Texas Tech, Florida Gulf Coast, Bradley, TCU, Minnesota and Cleveland State. The Dukes have sported a balanced offense over the past six games with six players averaging between 9.2 points to 12.5 points per contest. The Dukes have defeated its foes by an average of 17.5 points per game, including a mark of 27.7 over the most recent three games. The Dukes have held the opposition to shoot just 36.6 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from long range in that span. The Dukes have led at the half in five of six contests, and build an average lead of 12 points (38-26) after 20 minutes of action.

STAT CHECK: The Dukes' high-octane balanced offense leads the A-10 and ranks 39th of 351 teams with 76.6 points per contest, 16.3 assists per game (47th nationally), as the Dukes top the A-10 standings with a 6-2 record. Libby Bazelak's 51.3 3-point percentage is 12th best in the nation. Duquesne has two of the top 40 players in the NCAA in assist to turnover ratio, as Nina Aho leads the conference with a 2.78 mark (23rd in NCAA) and Amanda Kalin ranks third in the A-10 and 38th nationally with a 2.53 ratio.

SCOUTING TOLEDO: The Rockets enter the contest with a 2-4 record, fresh off of a 54-48 overtime win over Belmont on Tuesday. The win snapped a four-game losing skid, as the Rockets fell to Dayton, Notre Dame, Memphis and Valparaiso after Toledo dominated Georgia State in the season opener. Tatyana Davis leads the team with 9.3 ppg, while Nakiah Black and Mariella Santucci add 8.8 and 2.2 ppg, respectively. Santucci also leads the squad in rebounds (5.7 rpg), assists (4.3 apg), and steals (2.0 spg). The Rockets defense has excelled this season, allowing just 59.0 points per game, which ranks second in the MAC and 84th in the country. The Rockets limit mistakes, ranking 22nd in the country in fewest fouls and 39th nationally in fewest turnovers.
