Dukes post wins over four ranked teams over the weekend

Duquesne went 8-5 against a strong field to place seventh in the 16-team Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State in Houston, Texas over the weekend. DU went 2-3 in baker matches, 3-2 in traditional play and 3-0 in the Championship round against a field that featured 10 nationally ranked teams.

The Dukes, who are ranked 20th, defeated four teams ranked ahead of them in the current NTCA Top 25 during the three-day event.

Duquesne went 2-3 in Friday's baker matches with wins over #2 McKendree (880-849) and #6 Arkansas State (908-906) and losses to #17 Louisiana Tech, #14 Tulane and #3 Stephen F. Austin. DU averaged 180.2 in its five baker matches to place 10th going in to Saturday's traditional play.

On Saturday, just 10 pins separated the Dukes from a 5-0 afternoon. DU opened with a 945-865 win over Alabama State before falling, 926-924 to #23 Youngstown State. The Dukes dropped a six-pin decision to Prairie View A&M (881-887) before rallying to defeat Jackson State (987-926) and Upper Iowa (919-833) to finish the day 3-2 and 5-5 overall to earn the ninth seed in the championship round.

Olivia Farwell placed 8th overall with a 207.60 average on Saturday. Allison Hresko, bolstered by a 242 against Upper Iowa, finished 13th with a 202.40 average. Jessica Cadez, who rolled a 234 against Jackson State, was 25th with a 189.80 average.

The Dukes gained a measure of revenge on Sunday, posting seven-game wins over three teams who defeated them earlier in the weekend. The day started with a 4-3 win over Prairie View A&M and was followed by victories over #17 La Tech and #14 Tulane. DU trailed Tulane 3-2 before posting 277-178 and 194-157 wins to close out the Green Wave and clinch seventh place.
