Duquesne ends historic season in red bracket at ITC in Green Bay

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team concluded its 2025-26 season this weekend in Green Bay, Wisc., at the ITC Championships at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley. The Dukes dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 24 Central Missouri before falling in the first elimination match, 4-2, to No. 8 Maryville. Duquesne closes with an overall record of 63-47 (.573).

The Dukes earned the No. 8 seed after at the ITC Championships after a 24-match qualifying round, amassing a grand total of 4,333 pins. In the opening block, Duquesne knocked down a total of 2,140 pins to sit ninth. Three times in the first 12 games the Dukes eclipsed a score of 200 or better, including a 202 in game four, a 206 in game nine and another 202 in game 12.

Moving into the second block of the 24-match qualifying round, Duquesne moved up a spot by collecting 2,193 total pins to close qualifying with 4,333 pins, just a single pin more than Central Missouri. Newman University, which sat sixth after the first block, dropped to 10th after the second block, finishing with 4,326 pins, seven behind the Dukes and six behind the Jennies. Duquesne finished at 200 or better three more times in the second block, including a 204 in game 13, a 202 in game 14 and a game-high 221 in game 18.

Bracket play saw the Dukes open with a seven-game setback to Central Missouri, which advanced to take on No. 1 seed Jacksonville State. Maryville, which fell, 4-1, to the Gamecocks to open action in the red bracket, would eliminate Duquesne with a 4-2 win in the opening elimination match. Maryville made a run in the bracket, winning three consecutive before eventually falling to No. 12 North Carolina A&T, 4-0. The Aggies went a full seven games against Jacksonville State in the championship of the red bracket, with the Gamecocks prevailing.

The Dukes were appearing in the ITC Championships for the fourth time in the last five seasons, a span in which Duquesne has amassed an overall record of 325-200 (.619). Over that stretch, the Dukes have won three Northeast Conference (NEC) regular-season championships, claimed their first NEC Tournament title last month, which earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, while also earning a pair of at-large bids to the NCAA Championship (2023, 2024). Overall in 10 seasons as an NCAA Division I program, Duquesne has appeared in the NCAA Championship four times as well as the ITC Championships on five occasions.
