PITTSBURGH - Four players scored in double-digits as the #24 ranked Duquesne women's basketball team topped Saint Joseph's 73-59 at the Palumbo Center on Saturday afternoon.
Kadri-Ann Lass and April Robinson led Duquesne (23-2, 11-1, A-10) with 16 points each, with Lass adding seven assists. Amadea Szamosi had 14 points and nine rebounds. Deva'Nyar Workman recorded 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Ciara Andrews led Saint Joseph's (11-13, 5-7, A-10) with 13 points and six rebounds.
A 3-pointer by Emilie Gronas at the 9:15 mark of the first quarter opened the scoring race for the Dukes. The game would remain close, and a jumper from Ciara Andrews with 19 seconds remaining completed the quarter with Duquesne up 17-14, shooting 43 percent from the 3-point line.
An SJU 3-pointer from Kathleen Fitzpatrick at 8:03 in the 2nd quarter brought the Hawks within one point, 17-16. An and-1 by Chassidy Omogrosso gave the Dukes a four-point advantage at the 7:49 mark. A 3-pointer by Robinson with 5:01 to go gave the Dukes their largest lead of the half at 30-23. A pair of free throws by Szamosi gave the Dukes a 36-30 advantage going into halftime.
A jumper from Szamosi followed by a Workman 3-pointer in the first minute of the 3rd quarter gave the Dukes its first double-digit lead of the game at 41-30. With the Dukes leading 43-37, Robinson's and-1 began an 11-0 run that would go on to the 5:48 mark of the 4th quarter, putting the Dukes ahead 57-49.
Angela Staffileno's layup with 3:30 to go in the 4th quarter made the score 72-51 and gave Duquesne its largest lead of the game at 21 points.
The Dukes will hit the road to face Saint Louis (18-6, 8-3 A-10) on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
