PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team secured its 22nd win of the season with a 61-56 victory over Rhode Island at the Palumbo Center on Wednesday night. With the win, April Robinson, Devan'yar Workman and Emilie Gronas became the all-time winningest senior class in program history with 89 victories.

Workman led Duquesne (22-2, 10-1 A-10) with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Amadea Szamosi finished the game with 11 points and nine rebounds, with Kadri-Ann Lass scoring 12 points. Robinson recorded eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.

The first quarter was close with three ties and five lead changes. Angela Staffileno's jumper with 1:54 left closed out the scoring with the Dukes ahead 15-14.

Samantha Tabakman led Rhode Island (11-12, 5-6 A-10) with 13 points. Kallie Banker and Tayra Melendez each scored 11 points. Melendez had a game-high eight assists.

URI opened the second quarter with six unanswered points, giving them their largest lead of the game at 20-15 with 8:50 left. The Dukes would tie the game at 22-22 with a 3-pointer by Gronas with 4:11 remaining in the quarter. Each team regained the lead once before Tabakman's foul shot sent the game tied 28-28 going into the half.

The Dukes were led by Workman in the first half with seven rebounds and three assists and Szamosi with seven points. Tabakman finished the first half with 10 points.

Duquesne took its first lead of the third quarter with a Workman 3-pointer with 5:44 remaining. With 33 seconds left Workman was fouled in the act of attempting a 3-point shot, and converted all three free-throws. This gave Duquesne a 48-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter, Workman finished with 10 points in the quarter.

A layup by Szamosi gave Duquesne their largest lead of the game at eight points, 50-42. The Rams responded with a 10-0 run for the next 6:23, taking a 52-50 lead with 4:56 remaining. Lass' layup at 3:55 tied the score at 54-54 and started a 6-0 run that put the Dukes ahead by four with 3:11 remaining. The Dukes defense would only allow one field goal for the remainder of the game.

With the Dukes ahead 58-56 and Rhode Island possessing the ball, Robinson took a charge with 17.5 seconds remaining. Robinson made both foul shots and Workman added another with five seconds left to seal the game.

Up next, Duquesne will host Saint Joseph's (11-12, 5-6) at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Palumbo Center.
