RICHMOND - April Robinson recorded a double-double of game-highs 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Duquesne women's basketball team improved to 18-2 overall and 6-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference after their 65-44 victory over Richmond on Thursday night.
Amadea Szamosi also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kadri-Ann Lass, Deva'Nyar Workman and Chassidy Omogrosso each scored eight for the Dukes.
Janelle Hubbard led the Spiders (9-11, 2-5 A-10) with 14 points.
Duquesne started off the 1st quarter by holding Richmond without a basket on its first 6 possessions as they built an early 12-7 lead. The Dukes would double-up the Spiders 16-8 at the end of the quarter.
Lass' jumper at 7:43 of the 2nd quarter gave Duquesne its first double-digit lead of the game at 21-10. With the Dukes still up 11, Richmond got back-to-back baskets form Alicia Hudalla and Michaela Parson to cut the lead to seven points at 27-20. Brianna Thomas' ended the half with turnaround jumper at the buzzer.
An 10-0 run midway through the 3rd quarter gave the Dukes a 21 point lead at 47-26, capped by Workman's 3-pointer at 3:32. Duquesne outscored Richmond 21-10 in the quarter to take a 50-30 advantage.
Duquesne's lead would get as high as 22 points after Erin Waskowiak's 3-pointer with 1:31 remaining.
The Dukes dominated the boards, outrebound the Spiders 54-35. Duquesne also had 13 second chance points to Richmond's four.
"Tonight, we got significant contributions from everybody on the roster," said head coach Dan Burt. "It was great to see Enniko Kuttor rebound the ball so well. She played with great effort. Julijana Vojinovic shared the ball and was the consummate teammate. Erin hits the big 3 from the corner. Conor Richardson played very good and gave us quality minutes."
The Dukes will remain in Richmond until Sunday afternoon when they face VCU (15-6, 4-4 A-109) at the Siegel Center at 2:00 p.m.
