QUICK RECAP: Rimario Gordon's goal in the 79th minute proved to be the difference as Marshall hung on to defeat Duquesne 1-0 on Rooney Field. The game was even until Gordon received the ball in the box, made a pair of one-on-one moves to beat a defender and found the left corner beyond the reach of DU keeper Sam Frymier. Duquesne's best scoring chance came in the 55th minute when Chris Alescio's diving header from the near left was deflected by the outstretched left hand of diving Marshall goalkeeper Bijan Gloston. Gloston, who finished with four saves, also stopped a tight shot off the back of the foot of Matthew Rochowski in the 71st minute. Diego Vieira and Jason Twum had the other two shots on goal for the Dukes. The teams, who battled to a 0-0 tie last year, finished with 10 shots each. Duquesne had seven corner kicks to three for Marshall. Duquesne is now 9-1 in home non-conference games under head coach Chase Brooks.
DUQUESNE HEAD COACH Chase Brooks: "It was a good team effort overall for 90 minutes, but it was still not enough. We're still trying to come together and gel in the attacking third. Tonight there was a little `start-stop' at times, but we've got to build momentum from each game. We have to learn and reflect and that's what this is about. We've got to come back stronger because we have a big one next week.""
